Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring saxophonist J.D. Allen performing at the Zinc Bar​ in NYC.

This Detroit native has just released his latest CD "Americana" on the Savant Records imprint and is a homage and studied working of how the blues has been a part of the American fabric and how it's related to jazz music.

For well over a decade, J.D. has released and recorded many critically-acclaimed recordings as well as established himself as a dynamic leader and composer with his piano-less trio featuring Rudy Royston​ on bass and Gregg August​ on bass.

I had a chance to sit down with J.D. at the Zinc Bar recently for the Vandojam to discuss how the blues has taken a back seat in pop culture, how the music is related to jazz music, and how he's been able to establish himself with his trio in the jazz community.
