Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring saxophonist J.D. Allen performing at the Zinc Bar in NYC.
This Detroit native has just released his latest CD "Americana" on the Savant Records imprint and is a homage and studied working of how the blues has been a part of the American fabric and how it's related to jazz music.
For well over a decade, J.D. has released and recorded many critically-acclaimed recordings as well as established himself as a dynamic leader and composer with his piano-less trio featuring Rudy Royston on bass and Gregg August on bass.
I had a chance to sit down with J.D. at the Zinc Bar recently for the Vandojam to discuss how the blues has taken a back seat in pop culture, how the music is related to jazz music, and how he's been able to establish himself with his trio in the jazz community.
