read the thirteenth doctor comics (so far)

they are good! loved the tiny adventures for each doctor up until thirteen

and followed up by what looks like a solid story

that was....different.

just really really different.

two things though: Yaz is CLEARLY bi (YEEEEEEEEESSSS) going by her mum’s questions about the Doctor (HAHA, ‘i don’t know, are we?’ Yaz fumbles) and Ryan and also she really clearly has a crush on the Doctor wow.

i appreciated how everybody got to really work together. again. it seems to be typical of chibs.

the fix to the spider problem (locking them up until they die of hunger??) did seem rather uh. well not very merciful either.

it was right to say ‘I see no mercy in you’ but the slow ‘natural’ deaths aren’t great either?

and the music actually summoning those spiders was a little silly. couldn’t the Doctor have done sci-fi mumbo jumbo to it to make it a little more plausible?

the messages about spiders, like, them tapping into the classical ‘they’re more scared of you than you are of them’ and combining that with the threat of giant spiders literally killing you and webbing you up. that was a little strange.

i like the twist of it being a capitalist’s fault and all due to environmental pollution and that the spiders are just confused - it’s a nice twist, where anomalies aren’t necessarily EVIL, or unworthy of dignity.

but.....

the dialogue remains a little un-snappy... and the horror wasn’t very horror. there was a lot of banking on spiders being creepy to people. (they did a great job on animating them though i think!)

pacing wise, no climax.??? still think the Doctor doesn’t get to have enough influence somehow

really enjoyed meeting yaz’s family though.

The Doctor warning Graham Yaz and Ryan extensively and making absolutely sure they want to come is also new - but very good...

- im assuming she gave matt directions as to how her character would respond

- it’s.....it’s really actually beautiful how losing molly has made them all think how much they appreciate this thing they’ve found together and - i really do think molly is going to be foundational - i hope he stays foundational forever. these episodes really help me accept the loss and i try not to think of the loss of potential...

- its crazy how Matt can with his body language and somehow his face, do a perfect impression of a gnome i’ve never seen and it’s just a hilarious character. love that fat flower guy
