maybe jamie was someone that trevor could have all by himself. coming off the high of leading the us to world juniors gold, in a plane with someone he knows will be a part of his nhl career, someone never involved with usa hockey even hates usa hockey in that moment.. and he’s stubborn and kinda strange and not all that he seems face value and he’s so interesting and suddenly it’s like their lives and careers have intertwined in anaheim but they’re completely wholeheartedly fully 100% new to each other. there’s far less second hand acquaintances or indirect connections than any of the friends they made while in juniors, and in the age of the covid bubble, it becomes even more of a small little carved out “our” space “our” friendship that absolutely no one else is privy to, rare especially to trevor when his name will always be intertwined with the ntdp 2001’s.
heh. hehehe.
a top jdtz on ice moment (x)
big fat absence re trevor and jamie’s living situation their other years in anaheim (x)

the narrative richness of jdtz’s story being in socal and philly is just so beautiful. there’s just so much to work with in regard to how their early years are a dreamy haze that was wonderful and amazing and a perfect time for their relationship yet was wrapped within a ton of personal struggles even pre-jamie trade due to major injuries and cronin. which is not unlike the view of hollywood/socal of glitz and glamor that has its highest highs but isn’t considered “true happiness” which doesn’t take away from the genuinely good moments but is widely known to be unsustainable happiness ie not feasible for the long term which is exactly what happened where everything got ripped apart in a blink of an eye. and you have them in philly the northeast where things are more harsh the weather the people the idea of “kind but not nice” and they won’t ever be early twenty somethings laughing on a roof in west coast sun letting each others’ company wash away the sting of long term injury and losing joy in the sport and their team tanking for yet another year but instead now they’re finding long term contentment in the east coast in separate apartments with diverging life paths while playing together in meaningful games healthy and with joy. and maybe that’s what reality is where that hollywood rooftop high won’t be reached again but it was never going to be sustainable anyways.
