Watch here!
tl;dr We need to help Sense8 get more than just a 2 hour finale. Spread word about the show and watch both seasons that are out to give Netflix the message that we support Sense8 and need more of its message in the world today. Regardless of fandom or blog or platform, we need your help to spread this message.
So here’s the basic premise: 8 strangers from all around the globe find themselves unfathomably connected both physically and mentally.
Sense8 –– to quote @rilesgorski –– is “a bollywood rom com, mexican soap opera, a cop drama, nancy drew hacktivist adventure, nicholas sparks movie, martial arts film, and a german gangster romance while also being a sci-fi mystery, musical and family sitcom all in one show” Honestly though!? Who couldn’t be interested?
If you haven’t ever heard of this show, or even if you have, you need to give Sense8 a chance. Trust me, I have heard it all when it comes to why some people don’t like the show. They say it is too pushy with its ideas, that it is simply too weird, too abstract of an idea, that the first episode just doesn’t keep you interested. And many other reasons.
But please hear me out. Of course this show isn’t perfect. I could argue that almost no show is perfect. But that doesn’t mean that this show comes close, or that it is worth giving a chance and worth fighting for. Take my advice and the advice of thousands of sensates who love this show to watch past the first few episodes. It progresses slower than most shows but it is all the more worth it given the incredible scope of the show and the plot it is aiming to portray.
Sense8 is a show about people. I almost would say it is more than a show, but rather a movement, a cause, a force. It inspires messages of love and support for our fellow human race. Regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, background, skin color, or any other difference we place to divide us, Sense8 promotes the idea that we all have a lot more in common and that it is something to truly celebrate and embrace. And I haven’t even talked about its breathtaking and incredibly unique cinematography, its inspiring dialog and well-written and diverse characters, its talented cast and crew, its incredible plot-line, or its truly moving and inspiring music.
However, the tragic thing about this all is that Netflix has pulled the plug on further seasons for whatever baffling reason. For a long time they wouldn’t listen to any plea. However, largely due to the wonderful movement and spirit that Sense8 has ignited in all of us, we were able to make our voices heard and convince the company that we wouldn’t settle. Netflix has since conceded to giving the show a 2 hour finale. And while it is truly incredible that we managed to get that far, we still believe Sense8 has more to offer.
This show deserves much more than a 2 hour finale. This show deserves the multiple seasons it was intended to have. Even the magnificently brilliant Lana Wachowski, one of the show’s creator’s, thinks so. She has told us she is writing Season 3 even though it hasn’t been cleared yet by Netflix. That says a lot. Lana believes in this movement, this cause, and this show. And she has the faith that we can help her fight for it.
So here is my pleading on her behalf. Please watch Sense8. This show has changed my life and broadened my perspectives and deepened my love for life and my fellow mankind and I know it can do the same for you. Reblog this post, even if you’re not a fandom blog or even if you’ve never seen the show. We need all the exposure we can possibly get. Share this message and share the show with anyone and everyone you can. Share it on social media, on your bus, in your office, in the halls of your school, by word of mouth, to your friends and cousins and neighbors and strangers and pets. Keep the conversation going. Help us fight for and celebrate love. Help us save Sense8.
