Character Spotlight: Raelt Leysars
A decent [King], he prides himself on being able to look in the mirror and not blink. While not famous, he has led his nation through adversity and a smidge of cataclysm without the country falling to pieces around him. He’d do anything to get out of dealing with his royal court, often wishing he could trade them for [Bandits]. Known as River Wardens (River Robbers in Raelt’s mind), Jecrass nobility are identifiable by their control of land containing water. They’re learning to be more nimble when departing through the castle gates as their [King] often enjoys juicy, somewhat past-ripe oranges atop them right after long argumentative council meetings. Well-known for its abundant water resources on a desert continent, Jecrass also produces some of the finest horses in the world, its handlers able to tame and train almost anything on four legs. Raelt despises them. The sentiment may be mutual. Too many times to count, a horse ride has resulted in the [King] taking a trip to the [Healer] for a broken tailbone, arm, leg…the list goes on. He gets on well with dogs, however. His only family is his daughter Jecaina. Born to Raelt’s half-sister, she was adopted by Raelt after being abandoned by both birth parents. They share a love of fencing, often engaging in practice bouts. Trained in Kaaz on Terandria, Raelt is a proficient duelist but declines to advertise his level due in part to his abject dislike of bells. [Fencers] and [Duelists] typically tie them to their swords to demonstrate their level of prowess. On the battlefield, he carries an enchanted cup rapier with two shell guards and a parrying dagger. A man of some faults. A father to daughter still coming into her own. He cares deeply for his country despite his disgruntled exterior. When faced with difficult choices that may carry disastrous consequences for his country, Raelt Leysars is at his core a [King], with all the pride and ego that comes with it: “...what it means to be a [King]. To wear the crown. You must never, can never be anything less than the crown you wear. That is the dignity, the weight of your duties. Never compromise on your soul. And sometimes that means you fight to the last.”
