CW: talk of the miscarriage of Annie and Smoke, what ifs, drabble
How much would have changed if Smoke and Annie's baby survived?
Would Smoke (or Smoke and Stack) have stayed instead of leaving 7 years ago?
What was Stack's reason to leave? Was it to help his brother escape his grief or because they both wanted something more?
Would Stack have stayed or played with Mary? Or if after the canon events did he only stay because she was his only option as time went on? The only one he realistically would more than likely never lose.
How would Annie have changed with her baby? Would she still be as much of a mama bear or more fearsome in her protection of her loved ones?
Would Smoke still leave because he hoped for a better life for his family? Establish himself somewhere and then bring them along later?
How good of an uncle would Stack be and cousin from Sammie? Would Jedidiah keep them in the church? Maybe not like Annie as much because she's learned her ways and no amount of preaching will change what she has experienced and practices. She ain't ever gonna knock the church but she will not be forced into a space where her "sinning ways" will be scorned. She'll teach her baby everything she knows.
Sammie would feel the weight of being the older cousin to their baby. Always watching out for em like they own siblings.
The Chow's daughter would help watch em, make sure they ain't up to no trouble or very much be part of the trouble with em.
Cornbread is just like, "That's my second niece/nephew after Sammie". Even though they ain't related. Cherishes smoke's kid like his own but he most definitely can't babysit til after he's already had his own kid since he be playing around too much and end up loosing the damn kid if he ain't careful.
Delta Slim is like a great uncle or grandpa. Baby calls him pops. I feel like while he is suffering from his grief being around the baby and singing them sweet blues would give him some solace outside the bottle every now and then. Maybe as baby grows older they try getting Delta Slim to cut back on the drink but knows better than to make him give it up.
I just want Annie and Smoke to have their family bruh.
