Because of the flashing/spinning problem with a good chunk of Project Hail Mary, I checked to see if the version I purchased from Amazon includes audio description.
I figured since it's not Disney/Marvel, it would be a coin flip on whether it would even have if, and if so if the narrator would be any good.
Y'all.
I literally did jazz hands when I turned it on.
It's Jedediah Barton!!! My guy from Daredevil (and many other Marvel shows/movies, as well as Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End).
I cannot tell you how excited I am about this! I can fully look away for the spinny/flashy bits and follow the narration until the horrible stuff is over.
So if anyone has been hesitant to watch because of the flashing lights & movement sequences, fear not!
I'm still hoping someone will do a list of timestamps to help photosensitive viewers know when to look away, but this definitely helps too!
And now I'm hoping it will be uploaded to Audio Vault so I can just listen without having the TV on. (edit: It is on Audio Vault!)
This will also help my kiddo who has a hard time keeping up with the various captions used for Rocky before the voice and on Erid, because Jed reads the translations.
I am not only thrilled that studios are starting to include description in streaming releases, but even more so that apparently studios beyond Disney/Marvel are using Deluxe and have discovered the gem that is Jedediah Barton. He's so good at what he does.
I would also have been happy with Laura Post. She's also really good! But I have to say Jed is my fave. He needs to teach his style to other narrators. And whoever at Deluxe does the narration scripts is also freaking fantastic.
I guarantee I will be shouting about this every time a studio gets this right.
