“Don’t give me that look! It wasn’t my fault!” Doc and Riya
I’ll have it be known that I was cackling the entire time I was writing this because I think this is how my Super-Devoted Jedi Boy finds out his sister and Doc are… um… breaking the Jedi Code.
“Leikar’s mad at me,” Doc announced to the med-bay. “Well, I know Jedi don’t get mad, but he’s got that look. You know the one?” He stopped at Riya’s expression. “Don’t give me that look! It wasn’t my fault.”
“Uh-huh.”
“I swear I did not intentionally tell him I wanted him… in bed with me.”
Riya blinked. “You what?” she asked incredulously.
“See? It’s not my fault. I was practicing sign language and he walked in right when I… um… practiced something meant for you.” Doc was looking everywhere but her, completely mortified. “Would he tell Kira? I think she’d short-sheet my bed again.”
“You… Doc.” Riya burst out into laughter, not bothering to hide it. “I’m sorry, but…” she gasped. “You- Leikar-” The Jedi leaned against the wall, tears running down her cheeks. “But Kar!”
“Ree.”
She slid down the wall until she was sitting on the floor. “Doc… you probably just gave Leikar the shock of his life.” Riya doubled over laughing again. “What did his face look like?”
“C’mon, Ree, this is embarassing.”
“This is funny.”
Doc couldn’t hide the smile stretching across his face. She had a beautiful laugh. “Maybe, gorgeous, but your brother… I told him… Ree, I’m never going to be able to leave the med-bay again!” he declared dramatically, sinking onto the floor next to her.
“Please. I’m sure he’s used to hearing about your flirts from Rennie. Look at this way, you’ve officially hit on all of us.”
“I… Ree,” he groaned. “Lets run away and I’ll never have to look him in the face again.”
She chuckled and leaning into him. “So what did you say?”
“Well… since I’m so embarrassed, it might take a couple kisses for me to say.”
“Uh-huh.”
'Obviously you can't tell a woman that you just met that you love her, but it sucks that you can't' for Riya/Doc
She was something, Doc decided. She’d barged into the hospital to save him (and with three other Jedi and to save patients, but still. He could pretend, right?) and had done so with some amazing Jedi-lasersword skills.
He was impressed.
Fiery red hair, enough freckles to make it look like she had her own galaxy on her skin, and sharp cybernetics to contrast against the smooth curve of her lips.
She was beautiful.
Sure, he didn’t believe in love at first sight, but there had to be exceptions to that.
This Jedi was definitely one of them.
Doc turned to her sister, who was sitting on the cot behind him. Her cybernetic hearing aids had needed new calibrations. “Obviously you can’t tell a woman that you just met that you love her, but it sucks that you can’t.”
The sister’s head snapped up. Riya, was her name? Yeah, Riya. “What?” she asked in disbelief.
“I might just believe in love at first sight.” Doc picked up his tray of med-packs and whistled as he headed over to introduce himself. “Hey Gorgeous, I’m Doc.”
The Jedi looked at him suspiciously. “Orentha.”
Fic idea: vanyke and the triplets stranded on a planet and have to work together to get off of it. Just a suggestion cause I would love to see something like that, but seriously no pressure!
oh man I love this idea, how they end up there together i don’t know but oh, would it be good. I’ve currently got way too many full-on, multi-chapter fics i’m working at the moment so I can’t write the major huge thing this idea deserves but I’ll outline it for ya!
Featuring companions: Doc, Kira, Pierce, Jaesa, and Quinn
Vanyke is not happy to be working with Jedi. Especially Leikar. He’s extremely Jedi and is trying to get Jaesa to come back to the Order. So to get back at him Vanyke tries to get Kira to rejoin the Sith and Kira is even more pro-Jedi than Leikar.
Riya’s hearing implants’ calibrations are off from whatever crash got them to this planet and there’s no tools to adjust them so Doc is sticking close to her and translating everything into sign language
Quinn catches Doc signing and realizes Riya is deaf. A possible weakness to exploit.
Orentha and Pierce have a stare-down that lasts 2 hours. Neither win.
Leikar can’t handle talking to Vanyke so he tries who he assumes is her second-in-command, Quinn, who seems reasonable but keeps staring at Riya
Jaesa and Kira interrupt Pierce and Orentha’s staring contest. Surprisingly enough the two apprentices get along fairly well if they don’t discuss Jedi/Sith stuff
Vanyke is not in charge here and that is not 100% okay with her
So Vanyke end up talking to Doc, she wants to meet this deaf Jedi to get a feel for her powers and see if she can threaten Riya to get Leikar to follow her ideas
Instead the more Vanyke talks (through Doc) to Riya the more Vanyke sees her own sister in this Jedi. And its impossible to miss the feelings this deaf Jedi and her medic have for each other.
Orentha and Pierce have begun to trade war stories. Total bromance. Vanyke scathingly asks if they’re dating and Pierce teasingly answers by throwing an arm around Orentha and saying ‘Spring wedding, right babe?”
Pierce is then force-pushed twenty feet away
Vanyke eyes him and goes “You deserve that, Lieutenant.”
He keeps calling Orentha ‘babe’ as a joke and she’s actually okay with that because at least he’s not flirting with her the way Doc usually does
Quinn and Leikar have single-handedly recovered a whole lot of wreckage. Quinn calculates where stuff should be, Leikar uses the Force, boom. They have the thing.
Only one of their ships can be repaired.
And no one knows how to repair certain things.
Vanyke calls up Andronikos
Doc contacts a smuggler he know. Carmadda.
They join the calls together
And this is how both Jedi and Sith learn about the Carmadda Shade/Andronikos Revel rivalry
“Oh, that pipe? it goes up Captain Revel’s ass SINCE HE TRIED TO BREAK INTO MY SHIP!”
“Hey, Sith, do me a favor and Force-choke that smuggler. She broke into one of my warehouses and stole a couple million in credits.”
Neither Leikar or Vanyke do as suggested
Jaesa, Kira, and Riya are all admiring the view of Doc and Pierce shirtless and fixing something. They don’t know what. Quinn joins them and suddenly Pierce and Doc have lost their audience
Vanyke and Leikar have to work together to lift the Jedi ship upright to finish repairs
Orentha and Pierce go off scavenging for food and they return in a dead sprint with a herd of very unfriendly native beasts in tow
Vanyke does not like Orentha for very different reasons than what she doesn’t like Leikar for
Pierce gets that vibe of Vanyke not happy with him so he says he’ll find a way to make it up to her once they’re back on their ship. He lets his hands wander to give her an idea of what exactly he means
Quinn is oblivious to this
Doc and Riya are not and they walk into seeing Pierce and Nyke hardcore making out
they slowly back up and pretend they never saw anything. Riya’s face is bright red. Doc is thinking about doing that exact thing they just witnessed with Riya
Meanwhile Quinn and Orentha are talking and neither like each other all that much. They say maybe 10 things and just walk away
Jaesa tries to flirt up Leikar, knowing it’s probably not going to work
Kira tries to flirt up Quinn. He gets very uncomfortable and says some not-so-nice things. Kira keeps it up just to watch him squirm
They get the ship repaired with Carmadda on one holo as far away from Andronikos, who’s on another holo. They offer almost identical advice, however Carmadda has more solutions to his and they’re slightly better.
When they get off the planet, all of them crammed together on the ship, they go straight to a neutral fuel stop, unload, everyone shakes hands and then they stop being civil and make a point of waiting for their respective factions to send a ship to pck them up
neither Sith nor Jedi leave until they see that the other’s ship has arrived
Jaesa and Kira totally exchange holo-frequencies without Vanyke or the Trips knowing. They’re kinda now bffs.
99. “We’re in an abandoned lodge in the middle of nowhere. Sure, you’re totally right, nothing bad could ever happen here.” Pairing of your choice.
“No, no, I can sense it with the Force,” Doc continued sarcastically. “I don’t think we need to bring our datapads with a map.”
Leikar ignored the tirade.
“Can I shut him up?” Orentha asked sourly.
“If you don’t, I will.” Kira came up alongside them, frowning. “Why’d we bring him?”
I do not like the cold. It makes everyone angry.
“He’s a doctor.” Leikar kept his voice emotionless. “If we get hurt, he can administer kolto and keep wounds from getting infected.”
Kira gave him a patronizing smile. “But we’re Jedi, Kar.”
“We can still get hurt.”
She rolled her eyes.
“Either way, we need to stop for the night.” Orentha crossed her arms to keep back the bitter breeze. “Let’s just find somewhere safe. I don’t want Thul soldiers finding us again.” She shot a dark look behind her at Doc.
“What’s going on?” he asked, tugging down his scarf to be heard over the mild snowstorm.
“We’re stopped for the night.” Leikar pointed towards a rock outcropping. “There?” He felt Riya grab his attention with the Force, and he looked over at her.
She was pointing at a silhouette of a building sticking out of the side of a mountain. ‘House’, she signed.
Doc followed Leikar’s gaze. “Hey, there’s a lodge!”
“We can see it,” growled Orentha.
Leikar studied the group’s faces. Kira’s nose was bright red, Orentha looked more irritable than normal, Riya… well, she’d turned off her cybernetics since she couldn’t hear with her hood and scarf covering her ears, and Doc’s face looked pinched with cold.
They were all looking up at the lodge with hope.
“Let’s see if they can make room for us,” Leikar suggested.
It was empty.
And creepy.
Leikar led the way into the room with a huge fireplace, stirring up dust in his wake.
Really… creepy.
Kira’s lip was curled in disgust as she took in the place. “Would’ve thought someone would have droids keeping it nice.”
Orentha pointed to the covered furniture. “Let’s just move the sheets first. Then you can complain.”
“We’re in an abandoned lodge in the middle of nowhere.” Doc strolled into the middle of the room like he owned it, and gave Leikar a smile filled with dark humor. “Sure, you’re totally right, nothing bad could ever happen here.”
Leikar frowned at him. “Is… is there a significance to staying in a lodge? I don’t get it.”
Doc mocked outrage. “You’ve never seen a horror flick?”
“A what?”
“Oh stars, I’m working with people who don’t know anything about pop culture.” Doc sighed dramatcially and pointed to Riya to catch her attention. He sighed ‘water’ and gestured that she should go with him. “We’ll be back, we’re going to find the kitchen. Maybe they’ve got energy pudding in the coservator.”
“Ick!” Kira shook her head. “I wouldn’t be caught dead eating that.”
Orentha caught Leikar’s eye and sent him a questioning look. “Think we need someone to keep watch tonight?”
“Maybe. I doubt it, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.” He looked out the window. “The storm’s getting worse.” Leikar shed his heavy cloak and scarf, and found the button for the fireplace. He flicked it on and smiled at the warmth.
Kira joined him and stretched out his hands. “That feels nice.”
He could feel her watching him.
Please stop looking at me that way.
Leikar turned away and looked at the furniture Orentha had uncovered. Lots of heavily cushioned couches and armchairs. “Good, we’ve got places to sleep.” He checked his chrono. “We just need food, and then we can take turns on watch duty.”
Orentha shook him awake. “Your turn, Kar.”
Leikar rubbed the sleep out of his eye. “Okay.”
His sister didn’t move towards the couch she’d staked out earlier, she was frowning in distaste at a couch closer to the fireplace.
Leikar turned and frowned as well.
When he’d fallen asleep, Doc and Riya had still be up, talking together on that couch. And now they were dead asleep, Riya resting her head on his shoulder and Doc with an arm around her. They both looked exhausted
I thought we discussed this, Riya.
She must have sensed his disapproval through the Force, because she shifted closer to Doc and looked sad.
“I don’t want to wake her up,” Orentha whispered. “She’s been pushing herself lately.”
“Doc doesn’t return-”
“No, he’s still harassing me.”
Leikar pursed his lips. “I’ll get her up and moved away from him when its her watch. You can go to sleep now.”
She didn’t move again. “We should discuss Kira. I’ve picked up on things today-”
“No we should not.” Leikar could see Orentha’s brow raised in teasing surprise. “I told her no.”
“According to her, you said it wasn’t the Jedi way.”
“Exactly.”
“She’s a teenager, Leikar. Do you remember when were her age a few years ago?”
I don’t like where this is going.
“Actually,” Orentha shifted on the arm of the couch. “You had a huge crush on Master Satele when we first arrived to the Temple. Me and Riya could sense it.”
“That… I did. And she told me it wasn’t the Jedi way.” Leikar frowned at her. “That’s what I’ve told Kira.”
“She’s not twelve. She’s eighteen. You need to tell her no. That word, too. No.” Otherwise she’ll end up like Riya with a crush on someone when she shouldn’t. You might have to do it in a very un-Jedi way and actually hurt someone’s feelings.” Orentha messed up his hair and dropped onto her couch, pulling her cloak up as a makeshift blanket.
Leikar sensed her drift off to sleep a moment later. He stood, stretched, and went for a walk around the room, pushing the Force out and sensing no one in the lodge.
He settled himself down on the floor and began to mediate.
The Knights
Riya danced forward, lightsabers cutting green arcs though the air as she advanced through Imperials towards one of big battle droids focused on Leikar and Kira.
Blaster bolts flew past her in blurs.
Sweat slid down her back, prickled her scalp, slicked her palms.
She sensed a soldier coming around behind her. Riya leapt into the air and spun.
Her boot connected with his jaw.
She twisted around and pushed a soldier into a group headed towards Orentha and Doc, tangling them together in a pile of armored bodies and awkward rifles.
The Force surged, telling her to move.
Riya felt Leikar tug to towards him with the Force, then a panicked wave of him and Kira.
Orentha’s own fear joined theirs.
Riya looked up in time to see a concussion missile silently bearing down on her.
The droid-
There was a burst of light.
She sat up in a river, water cascading around her and numbing her with coldness. The water splashed loudly at her disturbance, no longer the quiet gurgle but now a fast and low rumble.
The sky was completely black, no stars or moons or asteroids.
Empty.
Then where was the light coming from?
Riya climbed to her feet and looked around. Wetlands stretched to the horizon, grasses swaying the a breeze she didn’t feel, painted gray in the strange light. The river came from a singular mountain; the light from it’s peak.
The water surged around her knees.
Water.
Her cybernetics. Riya reached for her ears and found none.
“Ree.”
Doc’s voice.
She turned and saw him standing there in the grass, a bittersweet smile on his face.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
“What for?”
Doc looked saddened. “I didn’t see you.” He walked towards her until he was at the edge of the river. “Will you keep waiting?”
“Yes.” Riya picked her way over to stand before him, the tops of her feet barely out of the water. “What am I waiting for?”
“What you want, Gorgeous.” Doc winked at her and turned around, disappearing into the grass.
“What I want.” Riya repeated to the empty world.
“Yes,” said Leikar on his right. “What you want.”
“A Jedi Master. Padawans.” Orentha added.
Riya stared out to where Doc had been. “Do I?”
Their hands pulled her back into the icy river.
“A Jedi Master.” Leikar smiled at her. “At peace.”
“Calmness.” Orentha’s glower softened into an affectionate frown. “Certainty. Someone to pass knowledge on.”
They pointed towards the mountain with the light at the top. “That’s what you want,” they said in sync.
Yes. To be a Jedi Knight, to never fear again, to be certain. Riya stepped towards the mountain and found herself alone again.
Another step.
The water grew warmer, the river stopped pushing against her.
The mountain got closer.
The light pulled her closer, dazzling and enchanting her.
Peace. Calm. Righteous.
Riya plodded through the warm river, almost at the mountain’s base.
“Ree.”
Doc appeared on her left, looking crushed. “You said you would wait.”
She took a step towards him and the river roared in response. The water turned frigid, crashing into her knees and almost toppling her. “Doc!”
He shook his head. “What do you want, Sweetheart? I can’t follow you up the mountain.”
“Doc.” Riya moved closer.
The river almost pulled her away, the water reaching her hips.
“Don’t go,” he said quietly.
“You,” she stated. “I’m certain.”
The river rose above her head and froze.
Lights swirled above her, flashing in a multitude of colors like the fireworks on Nar Shadda.
A hand was gently cupping her face, occasionally brushing back her hair as the breeze blew it back over her face.
Everything was silent.
Her cybernetics must be off.
She turned her head and saw Doc, eyebrows knitted together with worry. He said something, then realized she couldn’t her him. He held up a finger and gently cupped her ears as he turned them on.
“Hey Ree, how’re you feeling?”
“Achy.”
He smiled. “Not a lot of my patients survive a concussion missile with all their limbs. You are a lucky Jedi. Or I’m your good-luck charm.” Doc helped her sit up.
Riya studied him; the pointed nose, the mustache, the warm eyes observing her back. “I think maybe I should stick with you.”
okay more dream symbolism here and I think I was a little heavy-handed with it, but hey, i like it.

“No, it was my fault for thinking that you might care.” - your choice :)
“Riya!” Doc stomped after her. “What’s wron-”
“No,” she spat, uncharacteristically upset. “It was my fault for thinking you might care.”
“Ree, hold up- HEY!” Doc shouted as she used the Force to hold him in place. “WHAT DID I DO?”
Riya’s frown increased and she flicked off her cybernetics. Doc hit the floor with a thud and watched her stalk away to the bunkroom.
“What did you do?” Kira asked. She stuck her head out of the conference room and eyed him. “Or rather, what didn’t you do?”
“I don’t know!” Doc climbed to his feet and brushed off his knees. “My ex-fiance called me and-”
“You’re what? You had an ex-fiance?” Orentha appeared next to Kira. “Someone agreed to marry you?”
“Yeah, so lucky she didn’t, Beautiful, or you couldn’t have me.”
Orentha’s face went flat. “Pity.”
“Ugh, she get cold feet?” Kira sighed and dragged Doc into the conference room. “Sit. Tell us what happened.”
“I was helping Riya calibrate her cybernetics and my ex called. Prudy said the clinic I got her was kinda sorta blockaded. So I said I would go help.” He took a seat and smiled at the two girls. “I made a great customs official.”
“I didn’t know they could get sleazier.” Kira selected a bottle of nail polish from the small collection on the table. “When would you go?”
“Tomorrow.”
Orentha and Kira traded looks.
“Tomorrow,” repeated Orentha. “You’ve be gone over a week.”
Doc smirked “Going to miss me?”
“Riya’s cybernetics, you ass.” Orentha snarled. “You said you were calibrating them. What happens when a frequency is off? How can you help if you’re on Alderaan?”
He crossed his arms. “What did you do before I was on board?”
Orentha looked like she’d eaten something sour. “Me and Kar did our best, but sometimes she’d have to have them off for days until we hit a clinic.”
Oh boy. That would explain why Riya hadn’t reacted well to him saying he was going to be gone. Doc rubbed his temples. “I have to go help Prudy.”
“Hm, leaving us? Now we know where your loyalties lie.” Kira finished painting hte nails of one hand moved onto the other.
“To people that need help!” Doc fired back. “She’s got people to watch out for.”
Orentha cut off Kira’s response with a flick of her hand. “Well, Doc, here it is,” she hissed. “Riya, or your ex. You have to pick one.”
“Maybe I want you, Gorgeous.” He shook his head. “I promised Prudy I’d help. I don’t go back on my promises.”
“No, but she left you, didn’t she?”
“No…. I did.”
Kira looked up in distaste. “You made this girl a promise you’d marry her, then you left her? Now you’re going back to her? Doc, you are a mess.”
“Yes,” Orentha agreed. “And leave Riya out of it. She does not need your drama. Does she know that this Prudy is your ex?”
“Yeah, but-”
“Do you feel something for her still?”
“What? No, I-”
“Liar,” Kira and Orentha said in sync.
Orentha leaned across the table to get in Doc’s face. “I can sense your passion for Prudy, you idiot. Go play hero and save your ex-lover’s clinic. Us real heroes’ will be waiting on our very important mission for you to get back.”
Doc took that as his cue to exit.
He headed towards the bunkroom to pack his gear, and passed Leikar and Riya signing back and forth in the cockpit. Doc pushed down the guilt of knowing she wouldn’t be able to hear for week. Prudy needed help. Her patients needed help. He couldn’t pick one person over hundreds more.
But why did leaving Riya feel like the wrong thing to do?
