Through his life, he’d felt something. Even beyond the communications with Snoke, he’d felt that there was something, someone, else just under the surface. It started with dreams. He couldn’t see much more than smooth sand dunes on the horizon for a long time but, as he got older, there was always a shadow. Faded at first but growing darker. No... Not quite darker but it was becoming less opaque with the years.
He’d seen it at important parts of his life. Moving in with the Damerons as a young man, then the day he left Yavin to join his uncle, several times over the time he was being taught as a padawan, then again just after Tai’s death. Before he killed the former Ren and taken his place, there’d been that shadow. It was so strange, after so long, that he could finally see the outline of a face in it. And then, it was her.
Seeing her in the forest, he’d known. Kylo had to take her with him then, if only to prove to himself that he wasn’t seeing things, so with her weight in his arms, he knew.
To have her strapped to an interrogation chamber in front of him felt almost surreal. Was she a Force vision? Or was she something else to be ruthlessly eliminated. He’d find out soon. From behind the mask, he could look her over without a care. Yes, the line of her nose and the gentle slope of her lips, she was definitely the one he’d seen.
But he did nothing to touch her. Instead, he waited and watched, crouched sitting on the heels of his boots in an attempt to look less imposing. Carefully, he pushed against her with the Force to try to wake her. ‘Come now. It’s time to talk.’
