alcohol and guilt form together as something relatively toxic, aiding his tongue to spew any and all fatal truths. adam is not a mean person and wouldn’t even be caught hurting a fly, so the concept of mean was different for him. it had to be deep rooted, something harsh in ways others may not understand. but to him it was detrimental and vital to his development, something he can’t forget.
