Jeffrey Epstein, who died in jail in 2019, is WIDELY recognized as a prolific pedophile who abused and trafficked underage girls to some of the most powerful and famous men in the world, his friends. Personally IDK If I'm aware of ANYONE out there who says he's innocent, like it would be a fringe opinion.
The Epstein files got tangled up in MAGA conspiracy theory messaging about the "deep state," and this drummed up voter demand (including Trump's base) for the government to release the Epstein files. This is a problem for Trump, given his history of close social ties to Epstein as well as both men being sexual predators. Back when Trump & Musk got in their lover's quarrel, Musk tweeted that the Epstein files weren't being released because Trump was in them. "Duh," millions of people thought.

Anyway, until recently, this didn't feel like a real existential threat to Trump because it's so easy for any administration to hide behind bureaucracy to infinitely delay unsealing files. But a couple of weeks ago, the Trump administration suddenly announced, and I'm barely paraphrasing, "Move along, nothing to see here" and said there was no reason to release the files. This only increased calls to release the files, including demands from Trump’s base.

The Wall Street Journal came out with an article that included the text of a personal message Trump wrote Epstein for his 50th birthday with an erotic doodle. The text was weird and gross, celebrating their "wonderful secrets."

In the past week, there was also reporting of an Epstein accuser who previously reported an interaction with Donald Trump to the FBI. When this survivor was underage, she was in Epstein's office and Trump started hovering over her and made her scared, and Epstein clarified with a laugh to Trump, "She's not here for you." But the expectation was there.

Republicans are in a tough spot of their own making. Initially, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle widely called for a vote to release the files. But House Speaker Mike Johnson (Trump lap dog) reneged and said he'd prevent the vote.
Use their moral outrage playbook
Weaponize their "conservative" messaging to demand release of the Epstein files. Covering up for child abusers is morally indefensible and this is an issue where they can really feel the heat. We have to use this to drive the wedge. 🧀
