Teach Your Children Graham Nash (2018) This video is a collaboration between Graham Nash and celebrated filmmaker and animator Jeff Scher. The imagery frames the youth-led liberal activism of 2018 against the backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement and Peace demonstrations of the 1960's, providing a powerful visual aid to Graham Nash's relevant-as-ever appeal to teach not only our children but also our parents well.
Forty-eight Years Later, ‘Teach Your Children’ Gets a Video
Graham Nash teamed with filmmaker and animator Jeff Scher to create an official music video for “Teach Your Children.”
Scher’s sketches of American protests from the March on Washington and Richard Nixon and the Civil Rights Movement to the March for our Lives and Donald Trump and the Me Too Movement roll by over Nash’s composition for Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young’s 1970 LP Déjà Vu.
“I wrote “Teach Your Children’ because we have much to teach them,” Nash said in a statement.
”Conversely, I believe we as parents have much to learn from them as well. I think that Jeff Scher did a wonderful job of animating my lyrics and positioning the song in a contemporary setting.“
Anyone who’s followed the news over the decades will recognize the famous photographs of Kent State, Martin Luther King Jr., Bobby Kennedy, NFL pre-game protests and the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School upon which Scher based his impressionistic black-and-white and color renderings.
