“Tefuda ga Oome no Victoria” The Light Novel For Gets TV Anime

An official website for a television anime adaptation of Shuu's Tefuda ga Oome no Victoria (Victoria of Many Faces) light novel was launched by production studio Kadokawa. The website features an ultra-teaser trailer.

I feel like they fumbled a lot with this latest episode. It just felt like whole gaps were missing of plot somewhere. The animation was jumpy, they paused in spots where they didn’t need to and wouldn’t linger where it couldve helped the intimacy stretch, mostly with Jeff and Victoria. There were some highly impactful moments that just didn’t land at all or make sense.

For instance, it’s obvious Jeff has to know she’s not who she says she is at this point when she’s landing blows on one of the princes. But he says he won’t arrest her so casually and invites her to his home. Now I get that he trusts her and is interested but being a Captain he should be more concerned. Also, it made no sense why Victoria herself who’s so concerned about concealing her identity wouldn’t listen to the man who turned out to be the prince when he kept telling her he wasn’t there to hurt her. She’s the one who kept escalating it when if she’d have heard him out she might not have blown her cover so bad. At this point I’m just wondering why no one would just ask her who she is when it’s clear she’s hiding something.

At this point the story just isn’t landing as well in the beginning. The drive to make her seem so tough and independent has kind of taken over the softer parts of the story where the real heart was. I’ve never much been a fan od the overpowered female who can take down men clearly stronger than her anyway though, it’s overdone by now. Victoria’s character has lost some of the original charm because she’s basically going back to being a spy when the whole point was leaving that behind. Her and Jeff’s relationship seems stilted when I was looking forward to more progress, maybe it was just the way they did the moments between them but it felt like her “fake” face was back in place vs before she was letting it go. Although she admits part of the reason she’s not leaving is she would miss him. I just felt bad for him saying he felt she would just disappear on him and she kind of dismisses him even though that’s exactly what she’s doing in many ways. Not sure how they’ll draw out the rest of the season but I was mega bummed by this episode.

I so wish the ball part of this episode had lasted longer cause it was just perfect. Victoria and Jeffrey “acting” the part of a smitten couple when it’s obvious they both have feelings for each other. And who doesn’t love a sweet classical dance where the couple just forgets everyone else in the room but each other. We got to know more about Jeffrey too and I was right about him having a past love, although it was more tragic than I expected. So sad to see how he blames himself even though it wasn’t his fault at all 😭

I’ll admit I’m a bit confused about the whole “him liking her because he’s not dependable and she depends on no one” thing. I’m hoping that’s actually going to be something the narrative is trying to flip around for both him and Victoria. Showing that he is a dependable man, partially since Victoria has been shown relying on him and Nonna as well. And then for Victoria, that she’ll find she doesn’t have to do everything alone which we kind of saw in their interactions during the picnic, that Jeffrey is the one man she could eventually be completely honest with and count on. The last thing I want is this narrative turning into something where he’s only interested in her because she’s a “strong independent woman who don’t need no man” and that way he doesn’t have to worry about something happening like what did with his previous finance. That wouldn’t be the romantic picture I had in mind for them at all.

To me it should be more important for him to have someone who doesn’t hide their feelings from him given that Katherine did and that’s why everything unfolded so terribly with his previous relationship. Honestly it would be better for both of them. With her not having to hide she’d been an agent and him not needing to worry if she’s bottling emotions, I’m sincerely hoping the narrative is driving towards them both learning that there’s a middle ground between too much reliance and being overly self-sufficient. After all, in a partnership it’s important if the other person feels like they’re needed and not So it would be better if he and Victoria are able to be truly honest with one another, not just continue the cycle of closed off self-dependence that means you don’t truly trust or love the other person. Also, I was shocked to learn this is only 9 episodes! Hoping the story can come together fully in that time. Wish they’d decided to maybe adapt both volumes and make it 12-16 episodes instead of just 9 but maybe if it’s good I can get the novels.

I love Jeffrey but honestly, how could you not love Jeffrey? He’s such a softie for Victoria and encouraging to Nonna. And oh, the way he so gently leans into Victoria and caresses her braid…that was some Darcy hand flex, make you weak in the knees stuff right there. I also like how, without even knowing, he’s helping Victoria open up barriers she has around her heart. How it didn’t show her face when he leaned in but her narration told us that normally she would’ve put on a fake “face” yet clearly in that moment she likely didn’t with him. She didn’t even know how she reacted but that just says it was one of her first real reactions with someone. Along with having her first true picnic and hopefully, falling in love. It shows how much of a gentleman he is. That he makes it easy for her to be herself, the person she’s rediscovering now that she’s no longer an agent.

In general though I just like the “courtship” approach with these two where you know he’s interested and he respects Victoria but when she tries to use Nonna as somewhat of an excuse at first, he’s swift in making it clear that including her isn’t a problem. That he wants them both in his life and he’s willing to take his time to make his intentions clear to her. And Nonna really seems to adore and be comfortable around him which is so important too.

I’m curious about what his brother said regarding maybe a previous heartbreak, I’d guess a possible former wife who passed. But that would make more sense why he’s also cautious with Victoria’s reservations because he understands heartbreak. Hoping there’s a bright future ahead for these two and can’t wait for that upcoming story with them at the ball together.
