Bolstering self esteem in kids with focusing problems
It's not easy being on the front lines and parents and teachers have a right to feel frustrated when managing distracted children. At the same time, telling a distracted child that if they cannot pay attention they may fail or be expelled from school, however, almost never helps the child improve. Worse, this is more likely to create feelings of inadequacy and shame. A strategy more likely to succeed would be to explain that you are proud of how hard your child has worked to achieve success, even though they have been challenged with distractibility.
