Still mad @ Dan Harmon about the S5 Finale of Community for LOTS of reasons, some of them his own words describing the writing process.  Jeff and Britta just made so much sense and he squandered it.  And showrunners get mad when the audience scolds them for their writing choices.

Wow

For a show that prides itself on “not caring” about outside pressures and just being the show that it is, Community sure did cater to the loudest voices of fans.

This is a rant. Don’t read it if you get easily riled up.

I really enjoyed the beginning of season 6 (for the most part), but the latter half had just been severely lacking. And now, that finale was so disappointing. Thank you for focusing on Jeff and Annie, because that is exactly what this show is centered around. Oh wait--no it’s not.

Not only had Jeff and Britta’s relationship not been wrapped up efficiently, but Jeff and Annie’s did after not being brought up for nearly the entire season. Just because you throw in a few “ex-boyfriend” references doesn’t mean that you effectively gave that story line any closure at all.

Did you happen to forget that the show began with Jeff and Britta? That they had constantly been hooking up and hitting on each other? That they almost got married on multiple occasions? That Jeff had just recently gotten jealous of his best friend wanting to get with Britta? (Which, by the way, was never brought up again--um, what?)

And you’re trying to tell me that Jeff’s midlife crisis (which nobody even cared about, let’s be honest) was “solved” thanks to Annie within one minute? Again, literally nothing led up to these developments in previous episodes. You wouldn’t think that maybe Britta wouldn’t be more suited for such a thing considering she, you know, actually studies psychology and all that?

I’m not upset that Jeff and Annie became canon because Jeff and Britta didn’t. I’m upset that they became canon because it was poorly executed throughout the show, especially this particular season. The whole meta aspect of the show would have been fine without the Jeff and Annie focus. It felt like they put that in there because they wanted to give the vocal fans what they want. It would have been a much better finale if we just focused on the sentimentality brought about by Abed.

Abed makes this show, and he was sidelined thanks to the apparent show of fan service. I just don’t understand this show anymore. If there is one thing that makes me furious about a piece of entertainment, it’s when the creators ignore their own story and characters just to make fans/editors/others happy.

I get it, it’s about the views. It’s about the money. Though, I find that funny since that’s exactly what you say you don’t care about.

Ok all these anti shippers and j/a shipper are pissing me off with all the Jez Dan Harmon nobody wants jeffxbritta. Does he not realize nobody likes them? Does Dan not realize the fans want JeffxAnnie? what is it 2009? Ugh just ugh.

The show is his and I much prefer he do things his way. Even if it means Jeff and Britta don’t end up together. Even if it means Jeff ending up with Annie. If he can write it organically and make it make sense then ill just have suck it up(rage cry into my pillow). No, but seriously what matters is that Dan does whats right for the show and whats right for the characters.

How many shows cater/give in to the fans and then they fall apart.

It drives me up a wall when I see people ranting about the creators of a series not paying attention to what the fans all want. As if all the fan want the same thing in the first place.

Dan should do what he thinks is best for community not what the fans think is best.

I don't think its bad for him to take fans into consideration. I just think ultimatly he(and the writers) should do whats best for the show.
