still not over the community finale
(I've always been a J/A shipper, so maybe this skews my viewpoint, but) the finale to me was about how important Abed was in all of this. He created the study group around Jeff. It's Abed he's been confiding in. Abed who's been there all season listening, telling him that it's okay that people grow up & move away. And Annie's consistently asked Jeff to see the best in himself. So it seems right to me that Abed & Annie, the youngest members of the group, are the one's who teach Jeff how to adult.
Hi there, sorry this is a bit late!
Dice not included. Some assembly required. Lines between perception, desire, and reality may become blurred, redundant, or interchangeable. Characters may hook up with no regard for your emotional investment. Some episodes too conceptual to be funny. Some too funny to be immersive, and some so immersive they still aren't funny. Consistency between seasons may vary. Viewers may be measured by a secretive obsolete system based on selected participants keeping handwritten journals of what they watch. Show may be cancelled and moved to the Internet, where it turns out tens of millions were watching the whole time, may not matter. Fake commercial may end with disclaimer gag which may descend into vain Chuck Lorre-esque rant by narcissistic creator. Creator may be unstable. Therapist may have told creator this is not how you make yourself a good person. Life may pass by while we ignore or mistreat those close to us. Those close to us may be those watching. Those people may want to know I love them, but I may be incapable of saying it. Contains pieces the size of a child's esophagus.
The last words of Community season six in Emotional Consequences of Broadcast Television as spoken by Dan Harmon.
More importantly, it has to be joyful, effortless, fun. TV defeats its own purpose when it's pushing an agenda, or trying to defeat other TV, or being proud or ashamed of itself for existing. It's TV, it's comfort. It's a friend you've known so well, and for so long, you just let it be with you. And it needs to be ok for it to have a bad day, or phone in a day. And it needs to be ok for it to get on a boat with Levar Burton and never come back. Because eventually, it all will.

Community finale - Elroy and Shirley?
Am I the only one who noticed that Elroy said he was meeting with an old friend who recently left their husband? I can't be the only one thinking that this is hinting at Shirley, right??
#CommunityFinale
Giving Community a seventh season would be the biggest crime in television next to letting the How I Met Your Mother finale air.
This magical little gem of a show was finally able to end on it’s own terms. Season after season of hiatus, cancellation, and resurrection, Community was always forced to juggle pleasing it’s fervent fan base and appeasing NBC, which proved again and again to not understand the impact and range of the program. Now, thanks to Yahoo!, Community was able to reach the first half of it’s #sixseasonsandamovie benchmark, once regarded as an unattainable joke and now a very viable reality.
Community’s sixth season began as a Godsend. I was sold by the first three episodes and immediately began raving, hailing it as a return to the glory of seasons 1-3. Frankie was integrated perfectly and was proving to not only profoundly fit in with the group but challenge them in ways that were both refreshing and very close to home. She brought Abed back to what I felt were his roots, which, in a way, roots the entire program. As the season progressed it became zanier and frayed at the edges. Chang’s Karate Kid episode and the introduction of Britta’s parents were homeruns, but others were forgettable mishmashes, lost in their own convolution. Annie suffered the most as the character, becoming the most characterized of anyone in the gang. This was actually alluded to in the finale, when she’s back in a dress and cardigan as “old Annie.”
But the finale came through. Hyperaware and yet somehow still heart-wrenching in the best way. I was reminded how deeply I care for these characters and how deep they all are beyond their sitcom roles and tropes. It served every aspect of what made the show great and tied it up with a bow while simultaneously sitting in the unknown that the show has always faced and the unknown that Jeff is most afraid of.
In reading people’s farewell tweets I found myself crying. It’s been a tumultuous ride for everyone involved - no doubt from the inside, but looking in too. But the thing is I’m not sad to see it end. It should end. Everyone involved, narratively and externally, are now at a point where the story can be let go. In the show, the characters are moving on. The show itself, has weathered obstacles that will go down in television history textbooks. Now they’ve reached a point where they’ve succeeded, been accepted, and accepted themselves.
To deny this perfect episode as their final bow for the selfish reason of not wanting to say goodbye would be heinous.
I feel like a lot of this is just jargon, so I’ll just bullet my favorite parts. I definitely reacted vocally to this episode (both laughing out loud and “aww”-ing) more than any other this season - or maybe ever:
• Jeff’s season seven pitch where they are all teachers. THAT’S WHAT WOULD AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REAL IF THEY WERE TO CONTINUE. BUT IT’S NOT REAL AND EVERYONE - JEFF, US - NEED TO ACCEPT IT.
• The ultimate rejection of Jeff’s season seven pitch - how Annie is hesitant to take education classes and Abed announced he’s moving to California
• Abed’s mention of Troy in the goodbye speech and Britta bursting into tears, only to say she was really attached to her idea for season seven.
• Jeff and Annie’s ending. Ugh. Thank you. So perfect.
• Frankie’s “As an outsider who came in and nailed it” line
• Jeff and Abed’s goodbye.
• The effin’ incredible board game ending. So true to the show and so personal and genuine. Harmon doing the narration himself was a nice touch and very emotional. He’s an amazing but very damaged dude - check out Harmontown (the podcast & documentary) for more on him.
After writing all this down if there was one thing I thought was missing was a better ending for Britta. Despite all the importance placed on her this season she sort of fizzled out this episode. She could’ve had a moment. But this was minor and unnoticed until active reflection. So, no real complaints.
Imdb has rated this episode a 9.9/10 and in all the little blurbs next to episode reviews I’m seeing words like “perfect” used as well. Very glad for that. Not so glad to see the uncertainty around whether or not this is a series wrap. Good God it better be a series wrap.
A movie would be cool cool cool though.

Aw Dan’s love letter to us.
Woops that’s a bit lengthy.
I agree with your annie/jeff rant and about how we didn't get closure with britta/jeff, but i think that for the most part the finale was amazing. I really don't like how britta's character is being treated since... the moment they decided to make her dumb, and i've never really liked annie, incidentally i've always been more of a jeff/britta person. So i've learnt to tune out jeff/annie romantic moments, and except for that i think the finale was solid.
Hello!
I’m putting this under a read more because it’s long.
