"As the World Falls Down"
Ship: Jekyllstein/Jekstein
Time period: Modern
Fandom: Gothic Literature
Basic concept: Ex's meet again at a masquerade ball
POV: Third Person
---------------------------------------
Henry rocked back and forth gently in his chair, being warmed by the fireplace. He used the dimly lit room for thinking, primarily.
Henry had recently gone through a split with his -now ex- boyfriend, Victor. He liked Victor, truly, but he hated his promiscuous habits. He didn't mind that Victor wanted multiple partners on the sexual level, he just didn't like that Victor would lie about such things. The Doctor was never too keen on sexual interactions himself, and as he got older he found himself less and less interested.
He sighed and stood from his seat before leaving the room. Henry walked down the stairs swiftly, catching sight of a pile of mail on a side table near the front door. One of his eyebrows raised in curiosity as he walked closer.
"Junk, junk... Also junk" Henry mumbled as he sifted through.
"Hey you dropped one on the floor, mate" Edward (whom lived inside Henry's head) stated.
Henry looked at the ground and bent down to pick the dropped envelope up. It was small and a faint pink color, with a gold colored wax seal.
"Interesting..." Henry muttered, starting to open it. He looked over the paper on the inside. A masquerade ball? He thought, I haven't been to one of those in a long time... Perhaps I shall go!
--{The day of the event}--
The Doctor dug through his closet, mentally cursing himself for not picking out an outfit sooner. He settled on a black button up, paired with a black suit jacket that had gold embroidery decorating the fabric. Whilst in the closet, he also grabbed his Venetian masquerade mask. The mask was half gold and half black, the gold side spreading slightly into the black side and swirling around. Henry got dressed and pushed his hair back, holding it there with a little bit of hair gel.
"You look... Okay," Edward teased.
Henry rolled his eyes and started walking out of the door. "You look... Transparent."
"I'm in your head, I don't look like anything."
"Exactly." Henry started driving to the address on the invitation, mostly in silence, except for Edward's snarky quips of course.
--{•}--
Henry parked -with minimal difficulty- and went straight inside. He had arrived a bit late, so it was a bit crowded but he didn't mind.
Henry found his way into the ballroom and gently pushed past people until he reached the middle of the room. Before he had grabbed a glass of champagne, and he stood sipping it slowly as waited (hoped, really) for someone to ask for a dance.
Before too long, someone had run face first into Henry. He looked down and noted that they were quite short. They looked up at him, "I-i'm sorry for bumping into you-" they stuttered.
Henry laughed softly, "it's quite alright. Care to dance- sir?"
He nodded. "Yes, sir. And yes I would like to be called sir," he laughed gently.
Henry smiled and took the man's hand in his own, the other hand resting on his hip.
The small man looked up at Henry and smiled, his eyes shining blue through his masquerade mask.
They danced for the majority of the night, only departing for quick bathroom trips or to grab drinks. By the end of it all the smaller man was resting his head against Henry's chest. The Doctor had his hands resting on the man's hips as he swayed back and forth slightly.
The small man looked up at Henry, "will you take me home, please?"
Henry smiled and tucked some of the man's hair behind his ear, "of course, darling."
The man smiled and took Henry's hand in his own, leading him out of the building.
The man had pulled Henry along before he could get to his car, but be wasn't concerned. He just followed the man, knowing he could get his car the next day.
--{hints of nsfw warning}--
Henry was assuming he would be dropping the small man off at his home, but was more than surprised to find himself hovering over top of him. He reached for the ties on the back of the man's mask and asked for permission.
He nodded and lifted his head up slightly as Henry untied the mask, pulling it off gently. The doctor gasped at the sight of Victor. He blushed and furrowed his eyebrows, pulling away from Victor.
Victor sat up and frowned. "Sir?"
Henry turned and looked at him as Victor reached behind his head to pull away his mask. He gasped as his cheeks turned red. Henry also blushed and looked down. He couldn't believe it; he had such a good time with Victor.
Victor pondered for a moment. He gripped Henry's arm and pulled him back down onto the bed, and cupped his cheeks. "Ich liebe dich immer noch, Henry," Victor whispered in his native tongue.
Henry whispered in reply, "I love you too, Victor."
--{End}--
Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes (exact, which I find odd)
Notes:
-I didn't do a grammar check because I do not care 🙏
-they are both adults!
-these are my interpretations of the characters and do not represent their canonical characterization
-I have no idea where Henry's champagne glass went, it is forever lost
-to my knowledge this is an original idea!
-the title is a reference to this song
-"ich liebe dich immer noch henry" translates to "I still love you, Henry" ((according to Google Translate))
