I love your new tutorials! They're so helpful! Also, what is a doll comb and where can I get one? : o what us the best way to unravel and brush out yarn? Do you ever use hand carders (like wool carders) to blend wool for unique colors?
Thanks, glad you like those recent posts about yarn hair! :)
When I mention about a doll comb, I mean the small toy comb that sometimes comes with a doll when you buy one. If you collect dolls or used to collect dolls, chances are that you might already have more than one doll comb lying around. But using a doll comb was more for my convenience - any comb will work so long as the tooth of the comb is fine enough.
When I was making my wefts, I had to unravel the yarn by hand, then brush out the hair using a doll comb or a more fine-toothed comb. But most tutorials I’ve seen for yarn hair seem to point to using a pet brush or pet comb, with no unraveling needed. I think a pet brush or pet comb would work faster.
I don’t have any carders. I haven’t had a need to blend stuff, at least not on a large scale anyway. There were only two times I needed to blend stuff, and this was for the eyeshadow (mix of blue and purple to get indigo) and iris (mix of blue and pink to get burgundy) for the Mettaton doll. Since I needed very small amounts in those cases, I was ripping and layering fibers with my hand until the fibers were well-blended.
