Whoooooaaa...👀
okay, so who ordered the 5 item Salty Buyer's Remorse Combo with Extra Vinegar?
My inbox became full of haters yesterday, before I posted the debunk of the FauxMoi tea 💀
There's plenty of things for me to answer but a lot of it would be repetitive. I have something in Drafts that kept getting interrupted from all of the noise yesterday.
This was sweet of another Anon, though
I think people are coming around. (Really, if someone like Jerome is saying that he would understand if people dropped from stanning her, it's saying something.)
I'm constantly faced with "BRUH I CAN'T TELL IF YOU HATE HER OR WHAT" comments everywhere, messages like this one
I came into this place/fandom with a healthy dose of skepticism. I didn't even want to watch the show bc of the visual similarities the girl has w/my ex re: Wednesday (this was the ex who had the same shit as Amber Heard/HPD and other co-morbid mental issues that were almost a daily torture for 2 years), but I sucked it up because I love The Addams Family and Wednesday Addams. I wanted to give it a chance, and Ortega was very good in W1.
(But anyone cast as Wednesday would have likely done just fine, too. Wednesday Addams is a character, and not exactly a very difficult one to play.)
The hype around her was huge, so I needed to see if reality aligned with the hype. I gave her a lot of grace and hope over Miller's Girl (obviously), since that kind of character exploration is literally up my alley, but once presented with it, we were all let down, and not just because of the story, but because there were parts where she was pretty damn bad. Most of it was just standard, and I kept telling people that her acting talents lie in screaming, crying, and comedy. Once WSSF came out I feel like that was vindicated since her best performances in that one were when she was screaming and crying ("Fall" held her best scenes, emotionally), and for me she just doesn't hold much screen presence/gravitas as other actresses during the dramatic parts that don't involve high emotions (DOAU kind of proved this as well).
Wednesday is herself an 'emotional' character in her own way, in that Ortega's supposed to be expending a lot of energy suppressing emotions/keeping deadpan, but we didn't see much of that in the second season. Gone were the very subtle expressions that were the hallmark of the Wednesday that she gave us in W1. Her narration wasn't even the same (and I'm not talking about the fucked up trailer narration, though that's part of it). Felt like she was phoning it in at times.
Acting aside, her social media now just barely even touches on the thing that made her. To me it reads like a model who sometimes likes to act.
Feels like that's what she wanted more, more than to be known as an actress, since she's curated down her account to mostly the Lookit Me, I'm Pretty posts that tell us nothing about her love of the craft that she so often talks about in interviews.
And that's fine, but some of us require more than a bubbly, cute front, or a suddenly edgy actress acting like she fell out of Johnny Depp's ass promoting what she herself has called "a kid's show" looking like she's too good to be doing press for said kid's show. She looks like a tryhard when her vibe goes from this
to this
in the span of ~four fucking months.
Maybe it's the cynic in me, but when I look at some actor/celebrity, I'm always asking "Mmk, what are they selling/how are they selling themselves?" I don't just immediately buy what people are selling...that would be aesthetics-driven impulse purchasing. For her stans, that's easy to do.
Now I see that her stans have been dragged into the uncomfortable conversation of "separating art from the artist"; which is probably the same headspace she occupies, given how fucking horrible some of the "artists" that she likes are. While sure, the arts are messy and there have been historical provocateurs, there are bad faith provocateurs as well, idiots who legit hurt other people/animals/themselves for the sake of their "art" and then hide behind victimhood of "the woke mob" in order to escape reflection and responsibility. She seems to like to indulge in the shitty people who make art.
Maybe like likes like? Seems pretty shitty to me now, how she behaved around the Percy White crap only to turn around and start fucking an alcohol-soaked rockstar version of his ghost. A person can have a magnetic aura about them and still be a fucking idiot underneath. (And trust, this is a fucking idiot move. I don't care how good she's getting dicked, she's got to know that any of her red-blooded stans would dick her up good until she dropped. Dick from a druggie connected to white supremacy/European ethno-nationalism during a time when the shit is ruining lives is not the fucking Iron Cross-stamped sword she should be falling on.)
BTW, Natalie needs to shut the fuck up with the Catholic Guilt/sins crap. That's probably for another post, just wanted to get that out there. She seems dumb to me, even though she's not (hey, she had too many children and found that she could exploit the loudmouthed cutie one to take care of the rest at the expense of mothering the younger ones that needed her...smart financial thinking, shitty for the other kids). Maybe oblivious would be a better word for her.
Aaaaaand because I fell asleep/passed out before I was able to take my meds, I'm meds sick again and my arms are on fire. Yeah yeah, rejoice as some of you will.
