I've always been a minor Harry Potter fan but I decided to read the books after doing a marathon.
I'd just like to say, all the characters annoyed me. I always see arguments saying which character was worse, did more bad things blah blah but really they all were.. At times bad people and annoying. And that's okay because humans are annoying and can make bad decisions (which is the only thing I really enjoy about the book. No one is black and white morally or with their personalities, we are all flawed) . I just wish people would stop trying to one up each other about it.
Needless to say, I enjoyed the books. But I feel like Rowling had a habit to finally get to the good parts in the last third of books. Much of it was... Boring. The beginnings just seemed to go on and on about nothing until you'd reach the middle and the plot picks up and then the climax would happen closer towards the end.
I dislike a lot of the fat shaming. I recognize it was written in the 90s but why every fat character had a bad personality was rather tasteless. I've seen arguments defending the spew bit but as a black American, it was quite offensive to me. Even if she hadn't intended for it to be written like that, there were still a lot of similarities to enslaved people in America.
The wizards were so conceited and I never really felt like anyone learned from that. It was acknowledged but, as much as I've read so far, not much changed.
All in all, Malfoy was my favorite character. No, not because of Tom Felton. But because I feel like his flaws and complexities weren't covered up by being the hero, the good guy. They weren't overlooked. And yes, while other characters didn't go to the extent malfoy did, i feel like a lot of their actions were looked over because it "wasn't intended" or they're Gryffindors, whatever it may be. Malfoy was a righteous ass, made mistakes, and tried to save his family (and his own ass) during the war and honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. The text showed not everyone is heroic when it comes to it, most humans aren't.
And before anyone comes into my inbox or my comments, I'm not that passionate about this series to argue. I think all the characters in the books were asses, including Jk Rowling!
