reading: The Names by Florence Knapp (really enjoying the three contrasting timelines concept)

last series: The Dragon Prince (finally got around to watching seasons 6 and 7, and I really enjoyed them - I still think seasons 1-3 are the best but I think it picked back up in these last few seasons and I'm excited about The Dragon King)

last film: Hamnet (went to see it over Christmas with my mom - I found it a bit slow but it was visually beautiful)

last song: Lex by Ratatat (I was listening to my Summer 2022 playlist and feeling nostalgic for songs I was listening to a lot a few years ago)

sweet or salty: definitely sweet, love a sweet treat :)

coffee or tea: hmmm I drink both but I think I get more excited about fancy teas than fancy coffees (as evidenced by my massive tea collection vs. my one jar of instant espresso lol)

working on: grad school work... can't believe I'm already in my last semester, it's gone by so fast!

What is the origin of your blog name? piratesPencil was my pesterchum handle back in the day lol... because I love One Piece (pirates) and art/writing (pencil) 🏴‍☠️✏️

What's your "I will always order this" food? ooh, maybe butter chicken or really any kind of curry?

What's your overused emoji? 🥺🥺🥺 I use her all the time... so expressive, so full of emotion...

What's your current comfort show/movie/book? probably Critical Role, that's been my go-to for years at this point

Song you've had on repeat this week? no specific song but my Summer 2022 playlist does include bangers like Running Up That Hill and Sunglasses at Night (because I was big into Stranger Things and Nope that summer lol)

What's the last thing you hyperfixated on? suddenly been really into watching Sims 4 build videos on youtube... it's relaxing

What's an oddly specific thing that brings you joy? bought some string lights to put up around my windows for Christmas and they're so nice and cheerful that I haven't taken them down :)

What smell instantly makes you happy? cinnamon ❤️

What's something you loved as a kid that you secretly love now? l mean I'm still a nerd about a lot of things I loved as a kid... let's say How To Train Your Dragon, that's been my favourite movie ever since it came out

What's your phone wallpaper right now? my girl Veth!!!

Are you a morning person, night owl, or something else entirely? morning person but in the sense that I like to wake up early enough to laze around in the mornings - take my time drinking coffee, watching a little youtube video with my breakfast, sitting on my couch and reading a few chapters of a book or doing some drawing before I have to actually start my day, you know?

Lastly, if you work, what is your work profession? And do you like it? grad student (also working at the library and as a research assistant) though I'm going to have to go back to the world of full-time jobs soon and honestly I'm going to miss being a student!!

While I'm still stuck on a prompt to send you for the celebration, I felt like you would be the right person to ask about this: I noticed that in the last few episodes of the show, Steven wears this little chain around his neck that is always peeking out from the collar of his shirt and oooooh I love it so much but I can't get a good enough look to be able to tell if there's a pendant on the chain or what it is and I'm dying to know XD No pressure of course, it's just a little thing, but again, your writing is THE BEST <3

this episode has marc in the field of reeds, the egyptian afterlife of eternal peace, after steven freezes up in the sand when he fell off taweret's boat. eventually marc rejects this 'perfect' life in order to save steven + tell him that he's his real super power (cue my UGLY CRYING AHH)

i like to think that this "wheat chain" necklace that he has on in the asylum is a foreshadowing element that represents how steven is marc's "field of reeds"...that steven has always been there as an escape from reality to support marc through his hard times. wheat is also symbolic of life, so it could just be a indicator of their connection to the overworld. IDK IDK

Have you heard about Cats: The Jellicle Ball at all??? A friend of mine got to see a performance recently and it truly sounds like an incredible take on the musical 8D

I have heard about it! A friend of mine also went to see it, it sounds like possibly the most unique take on the musical I've ever heard of. I know there's some mixed opinions around it because of going a more human route rather than, you know, cats, but I've enjoyed other productions like that. It's fun to see all the ways people reimagine the show!
