From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I told you it was JLA appreciation month! Today I’m sharing some theories of mine from her newest book “From Blood and Ash”.

These are spoilers so if you haven’t read this book don’t read below this line.

Poppy&Maiden Theory: Rereading FB&A and it struck me. What if we're going about this the wrong way? Over and over again everyone tells Poppy that she'll be "given to the gods", and the Atlantians are the only way for them to Ascend. Casteel told Poppy that Atlantians only feed on other Atlantians. So what if they are using this phrase to mean the "gods" are Atlantians and Poppy being "given to them" means exactly that. She becomes their blood source.

I mean how else are they going to feed Casteels Atlantian brother? They would need an Atlantian's blood. And the fact that all Vampyr have said that all of these Ascensions are tied to her being given to the gods. Like maybe Casteels brother is growing too weak to bring too many more over. The Duchess tells Poppy it'll be the biggest ascension sine the first blessing. If you follow that logic then it could be the previous Maiden somehow escaped and ran to the Atlantians for help but maybe she was caught and murdered.

Blood Forest Theory: I originally posed this as a “Crack Theory” in the “From Blood and Ash Spoiler Group” on Facebook but the author Jennifer L. Armentrout responded with “you’re pretty smart” so maybe this isn’t such a crack theory after all. Here it is for the rest of you on tumblr to go over.

I have this crack theory about the Blood Forest and I'm going to inflict it on all of you 🤣 Crack Theory What if the Blood Forest is where King Malek was buried? Being that he's the true Atlantian King (or was), descended of the gods, and an elemental his blood seeped into the ground creating the Blood Forest. In Chapter 29. Poppy describes the Blood Forest as being a red haze, the bark of the trees appear wet like dripping blood the leaves are tinged red and there are no leaves on the ground. Phillips says that the place is "unnatural". So what if the Kings blood permeated everything in the forest and that's why only wood from the Blood Forest can kill Vamprys and Craven. Since he's immortal and an elemental his blood keeps the trees from shedding leaves, locking the forest in a frozen state that never changes. In chapter 30 Poppy talks about the cold of the forest. Cold like a grave maybe?
