For #motivationmonday #muchlovemonday I wanted to spotlight my bff @jenniferbrodywriter. We met 6yrs ago in Feb 2011 through a little NPO arts & music festival: #girlfesthawaii, thanks to her #Harvard roomie @jennmeleana. We became Facebook friends, & I read her pieces in #HawaiiWomensJournal, where I had submitted my 1st creative non-fiction personal essay. I fell in love w her writing & started following her food blog, #DomesticDivas. Cut to 3yrs later, when I decided to move to LA to pursue writing, I remembered her, & that she was now pursuing a career in writing full-time. So I messaged her, asking if she wouldn't mind meeting for coffee sometime? To which she responded she was in the thick of finishing & selling #The13thContinuum, but would I like to join #BookPod. Through the BookPod community, our digital friendship grew, & when I saw she was going to start teaching a 1-day SFFH writing workshop @writingpadus, I immediately jumped @ the chance to get to learn frm her. Slowly we started interacting more on FB, in class, & via text. I was in awe of not only her talent & her extensive arsenal of knowledge of a plethora of subjects, but also her kindness, her humility, her passion, her work ethic, & her generosity in many things such as advice, suggestions, & knowledge. Every time she taught a workshop, I was there. As many readings & invitations she would extend, I showed up if my schedule would allow it. We started to & so many common interests: tastes in activities, music, film, literature, our sense of humor. I am so lucky to have the honor of calling #jenniferbrody a true friend, a mentor, a support system, & someone I also truly respect & admire. The safe space & incredible close-knit community you have created & giving me the honor to be a part of has been a true gift to me. I owe a huge part of my joy & happiness to your friendship, your mentorship, & your guidance. I am so happy for your continuing well-deserved success & accolades as you are 1 of the hardest working & brilliant minded people I know.
