when i was creating kanae’s headcanons, i had this notion in mind regarding her psyche during the initial stages after waking up from her coma.

based on the concept of cognitive dissonance: a psychological state whereby an individual experiences unsettling feelings when their beliefs and behaviour juxtapose.  

imagine your life primarily revolving around the themes of providing acts of service and protecting others; in other words, being depended on. kanae was introduced as the ishida family’s maid, where she served as their helper and protector. although she was no longer a maid upon marriage, her responsibilities persisted as a spouse and mother. 

and then unfortunate circumstances have occurred, leading to dependence on others to serve and protect you. concurrently, upon regaining consciousness several years later, her physical state became very feeble after prolonged disuse of her body; on top of that, her quincy powers were also gone from the auswählen. henceforth, she construed such events as her losing her purpose when she is meant to provide selflessly, leading to a semblance of discrepancy which culminated in - 

insurmountable guilt.
