Egads! Over the weekend I confirmed my suspicion that we have a mouse in the house. (I tried really hard to logic the mouse away, but it was hard to discount the blur of grey that dashed into my room last night.)
Non-gross mouse education and whining after the cut.
Apparently, the roommate and I handled the mouse thing backwards. We found and sealed the entryway (pipe hole behind the washer). We...assumed the mouse would skedaddle after we started moving the big appliances then left them all pulled out and quiet for a while before the sealing.
No. The mouse was still in the house. The mouse ran into his room, yesterday and after the roomie threw a shoe at it, it ran into my room. FML.
I was too freaked out to sleep, so I stayed up super late researching mice (Education: You catch the mouse first, then you seal the hole) and mouse traps and went on to order two different types of humane traps.
Amazon was on point - traps (a flimsy looking tip trap, and a more complicated “smart” trap) arrived about two hours ago.
I spent an hour familiarizing myself with them. I have no intentions of handling these things once they’re loaded, but still! Anyway. I have traps, I have peanut butter, I have a cracker for the smart trap.... but the roommate (the designated mouse releaser) won’t be home again until tomorrow night.
And... now the more sprightly of my two old cats has noticed the mouse. Thanks to her, I know it’s living behind the stove. I really DON’T want her to catch it (she’d play with it. The older, deaf male cat is the mouser of the pair. Luckily he spends most of his time being petted or asleep) I also can’t deal with the idea of setting the traps and having one of them actually working and then uh.... releasing it myself or leaving it til the roomie returns....which I think might defeat the whole point of live trapping. (Look, I’m traumatized enough as is already. I don’t need trapping to add to that.)
Jeopardy test is tomorrow. I really don’t need any of this right now.
A Jeopardy related post crossed my dash earlier and I was reminded:
1. I should really figure out when Jeopardy airs, because I like it.
2. Oh yeah, I meant to study harder and try out for Jeopardy again.
My last tryout was about 15 years ago, coinciding with my move to California (I was in a hurry to accomplish ALL of the things). I was not well prepared.
Since then, I feel like I’ve filled quite a few gaps in my knowledge base. Also, the once a year online sorting test is coming up this January. And finally, I’m desperately in need of a “project”.
