"Should I be worried about you?" Killian for Jeremiah
Questioning Sentences, Vol. 53
"Oh. Um..."
Should Killian worry? Jeremiah supposed that was a question of what the man was potentially concerned about. There were plenty of things that could be flagged as a problem should someone be inclined to think that way, but people didn't tend to show an interest. The people who didn't know the reality of what Jeremiah was dealing with thought him strange - paranoid, delusional, or having a nervous breakdown of some kind - and the people who did know didn't care. They were either too busy themselves, or they didn't want to intervene - and who could really blame them? Nothing good was ever going to come out of those woods.
Of course, his brother worried about him. Trevor may not understand it, but he'd seen how much he'd changed. Jeremiah wished he could explain everything and try to reassure him that it was all fine, but he couldn't, and even if he could, what could he possibly say that'd do anything other than cause even more concern?
Apparently Killian was worried about him too. That was... Nice? Kind of, anyway. Jeremiah didn't want the other man to worry, but he was touched that he cared enough to consider it.
"Well, I mean, it depends on what you're worried about, doesn't it? That I'm going to turn up dead one day? Or, more likely, that I'll just vanish? Yeah, that might happen - but I'm not going to go crazy from isolation, or willingly wander off, or anything like that. So I guess you shouldn't be worried? Because it won't change anything, will it? Unless you want to live in a tent next to my cabin, you're not going to be able to prevent anything that may happen."
That was okay, though. Somebody had to do the job he did, and Jeremiah was glad that it was him rather than anybody else. At least that way, he knew that the job was being done properly. That everybody else would be safe.
