Looking for quick action flick fix? Well kiddies, have I got one for ya... recently I stumbled across Wheelman, which has been quietly zipping around on Netflix since October and turns out it’s totally a hidden gem. The Netflix original, starring Frank Grillo (whom you might know from the last two Purge films), is a great boost for the waning car-action-heist subgenera (yes it’s a real thing... ok... ok I made it up, but it totally works). Anyway Grillo plays a excon simply known as Wheelman... he’s a for hire getaway driver... you call, you pay, he drives, no names. Well, as the Transporter films have taught us, it never seems to work out quite that way. Pretty quickly everything goes sideways and our Wheelman finds himself driving not for money but for his freedom (he’s not going back to jail), his family (hip teen daughter who loves him and estranged wife who left cause of his poor life choices) and his own survival (yeah, he like totally does not want to get shot or stabbed or killed). If you enjoy stuff like the aforementioned Transporter movies, the early Fast and Furious stuff, heist/escape type thrillers you will definitely dig Wheelman...
