JERONICA IMAGINE - CRIMINAL/DETECTIVE
Pairing: Jughead Jones x Veronica Lodge
Description: Veronica and Jughead are the only two out of the core four to remain in Riverdale after graduation. She works as a detective and he went down a criminal path. All legal actions were completely useless, so Veronica decides to get the job done in her own way, trying to salvage what she can.
Warnings: none
A/N: Ok, this is my first imagine so I don’t even know if I did well. I’m used to write a lot of narrative stuff in my language (Italian), so I’m sorry for my bad grammar and my vocabulary. I think I just have to get used to it. I kept it pretty short and simple for these reasons, but I hope you’ll like it. Any feedback is welcomed, and if you have any request, just ask and I’ll deliver as soon as I can.
“Smuggling. Wow! Seriously, Jones, do you have some sort of criminal bucket list? Because there are very few things missing in your record and I kinda want to prevent them from happening.”It was always Veronica. Everytime a case was open on Jug, she was the one that her boss choose for the job. She knew him well, she spent a lot of time with him when they dated Archie and Betty; that made her the most qualified person on the team to catch Jughead Jones. But somehow, he always find a way to slip away, or to crush them in court. This time, she decided to act differently.“Good evening to you too, princess. Yeah, my day was fine, thanks for asking. Tell me about yours.”He joked, as he used to with basically every officer or detective. But with her, he had ten times more fun in that. Without a care in the world, he let her in, showing her the way to the couch as he just leaned back against the shelf in front of it, crossing his arms and raising a brow with a curious smile. She took a seat, running her glaze through the room before letting out a sigh and staring back at him.“I’m not here as Detective Lodge, if you even care - and at this point, I really don’t know. I’m here as your former friend - someone who doesn’t want to lock you up and throw away the key. I know who you are, Jug..you’re not a bad guy. You may act like one, but I may be the only person left in Riverdale to know who you truly are.”Jug frowned silently, knowing how right she was but surprised that she decided to go down that road. Since Betty and Archie left the town after high school, the core four naturally drifted apart, leaving Jug and Veronica behind in the small town. They never really talked about it, and it seemed like that was something in wich they were on the same page. She stood up, drawing a stack of sheets from her purse and handing it to Jug. “Come on, read it.”He did, or at least he began to, recognizing what that was just from the title.“Do you recognize it?”It was the article that Jughead wrote to expose her father. He worked very hard on that piece, and it also was the last time he and Veronica really teamed up. Again, he was quite surprised about her decision to bring it up. He thought that was the one thing she’ll never go back to. In that period, the two of them got really close, and one night they just went too far. He was still with Betty and she was still with Archie at the time, so they just decided it was a mistake and that they’ll never mention it again. Once their work was finished, they never saw each other alone again. “What do you want, Lodge? Reminding me of what a social justice warrior I was? Is that your plan? I was sixteen, I was stupid and naive, thinking that a piece of sheet with nice, well written words could change the world.”She didn’t even let him finish his discourse, coming a step closer to him in order to look Jughead right in the eyes. She knew that she moved something in him, and she didn’t want to let go now that she had found a way to get to him.“But you did Jug. You may have not changed the world, but you’ve changed Riverdale..and my life, also, for that matter. That article was the very first thing that brought to the arrest of my father. You saved Riverdale from God knows what destiny, and you also helped me becoming the person that I am today. I want you to see that, because this is the person I see when I look at you, not the society’ scum you are so desperate to make people think you are.”They stood silently, looking at each other. Veronica’s eyes gleamed with hope, while in Jughead’s glaze wandered the spectre of doubt. That was the key of everything: how alone he felt when his girlfriend and his best friend left him behind with nothing. Veronica too, but in a different way. Everyone went on with their lives except him. He was left with just the Southside Serpent and the need to strive in order to get to the end of the month without asking for help. Help that Veronica offered him, but that he was too proud to accept. “Maybe that person doesn’t exist anymore. Maybe you just want to see something that’s not there.” He murmured, not totally convinced of his own words. She never saw him like that in a long time: vulnerable. So she took one step closer, fearfull that he might slip away again, raising her hand to slightly touch his arm in a conforting manner.“We were such a great team, Jug. It’s not too late. This town needs you - Riverdale needs Jughead Jones, the broody kid with a beanie who tried to change the world with his laptop.”A smile brightened her lips while pronouncing those words, searching for his look to try decifring what thoughts rumbled in his mind. He sighed, meeting her eyes with a glaze finally free of that cockiness he had built to protect himself from rejection.“You want me to be your informant. This is why you are here.”She slightly tilted her head, looking at him with a witty smile on her lips.“That’s what I wanted to offer you. But it’s not the main reason why I’m here.”A little confused grin surfaced on Jughead’s lips, questioning her with his eyes as if he didn’t quite know the answer but he started to feel like he was pretty close with his imagination.“And so what is?”She shrugged, sighing softly before meeting his eyes again.“You are.” she paused “You are the reason, Jug. I care about you..more than you think.”
