Problems with the Mateship of Fuss and Vandi
What is known about Fuss
Fuss is a five year old male Northern Jaro. Fuss joined the Meteor Tribe of his own free will one year after the rebellion lead by Kargo and Ferah. He, as of page 310, is a shepherd for the Meteor Tribe and looks after the Tribe’s herd of Nova Antelope. As has been revealed in page 310, Fuss fell in love with and became mate to Vandi. He has sired a single female pup with Vandi named Akleja.
What is known about Vandi
Vandi is an eight year old female Southern Jaro. Vandi was born into the Meteor Tribe, and has been used through many generations to produce potential members of the Tribe with his own brother and sons. Originally holding the rank of fertile until the outlander Ronja took over the Meteor Tribe, Vandi now holds the rank of herbalist and collects the herbs used by the tribe. Vandi has become possibly the closest female to Viscountess Ronja in that Vandi offers her vast years of experience within the Meteor Tribe and knowledge of the males to help the outlander. Recently in page 310, it has been revealed that Fuss and Vandi grew close; allowing Fuss to sire a pup named Akleja.
1 - Fuss JOINED the Meteor Tribe.
Unlike the dogs Ava, Galti, and Ronja, Fuss was not tricked into joining the Tribe.
Fuss had to understand and accept the practices of the Tribe. If Fuss joined the Meteor Tribe not knowing the practices of the Tribe, he still made no move to change the system, rebell, or flee.
2 - Where did Fuss and Vandi find the time to grow a relationship?
The only members of the Meteor Tribe to actively support the Tribe are the males. Within the supposed time-frame of Fuss and Vandi “growing close,” there was only at most 15 males. These males are in charge of defending the stronghold, hunting for food, tracking down the rebels Kargo and Ferah, and individual duties depending upon rank. In Fuss’s case, he would be busy tending to and defending the Nova Antelope as a Shepherd.
3 - Vandi is the victim of abuse.
Vandi is a female who has been used and abused by the Tribe of many generations. She is the Tribe’s broodmare, only used to pump out puppies and to be used for the pleasures of the males within the Tribe - this includes her own brother and sons. Some of these males (Savas) have been shown to be quite sadistic in their tendencies, so it can only be imagined what sort of abuse they could have leveled to a female who has been taught to be submissive. This sort of abuse would not leave a person unscathed.
4 - Love is a foreign concept to Vandi
Vandi has been raised in a system that actively oppresses and uses her as if she is little more that a machine with a uterus. In this system, there is no room for love. The only possible objects of love for her would be her family. However, it is her very brothers and sons that chose to rape and abuse her. It is very possible, as a victim of such abuse, that Vandi does not believe it possible for someone to love her.
5 - This is all a pitiful attempt to make the reader forget that the Meteor Tribe is nothing more than a gang of violent, inbred rapists who abuse females.
That is all that needs to be said. Kique has written himself into a hole in order to give Ferah and Kargo a tragic backstory and a plot for 3 chapters. Now that the Tribe needs to be redeemed, Kique has to find a way to make the reader forget how he has been portraying the Tribe for the past several chapters by ignoring it entirely.
