Jesse Crawford was one of America's most famous theater organists of the 1920s and 1930s. In this painting, Crawford is playing the magnificent 36-rank Wurlitzer pipe organ in the Times Square Paramount. The curtain behind him announces, "Paramount Feature Program Jesse Crawford Organ Recital." Crawford played there from 1926 to 1933.

Jesse Crawford, aka “Brother J.C.” in his ‘Zenta’ leather jacket (Zenta was the MC5`s cult religion), as documented by Leni Sinclair in 1969 on Zug Isle in Detroit.
He began as a drummer, replacing Iggy Pop when he left The Prime Movers in early 1967, and later on he teamed up with White Panther Party political activist John Sinclair and the band he was managing at the time, the legendary MC5, becoming the stage MC and warm-up man for their dynamite proto punk performances and kicking off their shows with his iconic opening rants.
