I'm definitely having some sympathy for the devil here because imagine how lonely of an existence Jesse has, all he really wanted was an eternal companion he could spend his exhaustively long reality with. He goes about finding this connection in the most evil way possible inevitably, by forcing an impressionable person to become a vampire and then attempts to harass her into submission, which doesn't work, and he lashes out in anger and attempts to destroy the ones she holds dear to her. It's because he values power more than he does love and genuine connection at the end of the day.

I always wondered if he wanted to resurrect his old slain vampire crew because he wanted to avenge their death or if he just wanted more power and control over the town he once ruled over and shared his name.

So I'm not actually sympathetic towards Jesse I'm just better understanding the emotions that may be behind his actions throughout the series. Still evil as shit though.
