Well I'm not [DEAD], which is a good sign!

Anyhow, I updated [Jesse and Amanda's refs] from 2023's AF after sitting on it for years now! (Honestly Amanda's light goth baddie phase shoulda BEEN started, but alas: I Forgor.)

I think my participation is going to be quite minimal this year, so apologies in advance for not beating my past records of attacks/revenges (And still unfortunately sitting on those unfinished revenges from last year. </3).

I've got quite a bit on my plate this month, but I figure that I don't wanna miss a year SO here's a [link to my profile!]

God I just think food and sensation are big parts of Bucky’s joie de vivre. He would have LOVED Antony bourdain parts unknown.

In whatever era he’s in I think he’s a pretty good cook, even if it’s really simple fair ,he’s making the best of what he can with what he has. And I think being in the army and having to feed yourself would temper the sort of “ feminizing”connotations of handling food and being around a kitchen ? Particularly in the canon era . All the cooks in the army are men and he’s probably had to feed himself since he left home so it’s just a survival thing mostly but I think he loves food and takes an interest in it .

Like he was totally down the pub in Thorpey abbs eating steak and kidney pie and breaking it down in his head like “okay this crust is pretty good and this meats got a nice cook on it and what’s the bitterness” and then going up to the bar keep and charming his way into the kitchen - to say “ thank you” and talk a little with whoever made what he ate ! I just think he would be curious about what he eats and would love trying new things and that feeding people he cares about ( Gale ) would be very fulfilling for him .

He’s got really obsssesive tendencies of ritual so I just see it becoming a thing , he’s always gotta try and say hi to the cook , he keeps track of the new things he’s had etc and in a modern era he’s totally planning all the places he has to try when he visits a place and very obnoxious and anal about hitting every one.

We never really see John eat in the show except the stalag and the misery of eating those water soups I think made everything worse , whereas Gale I think can eat for fuel so it’s not so soul crushing for him .

“ still eating scraps” is one of the things he mentions to Gale in part 7/8 like he was In pow camp that’s one thing EATING SCRAPS is another.

And Gale I think he has a very unemotional relationship to food . In that I don’t think he lights up at the thought of some really lush meal I think he’s just neutral about it and I think he probably learned a lot of that from home too. I don’t think he’s a picky eater but cooking has a lot of variables when it comes to flavor and I don’t think that would be an exciting prospect for him at all. If cooking was mathematical like baking maybe.

Also Eating in the stalag doesn’t seem to wring him out the way it does John and I choose to find it interesting he’s the one who tells benny to try to keep it down when he starts retching (which is funny because back In part 3 I think , before the Algeria mission It was benny who easily “convinces” Gale not to eat the powdered eggs.)

Gale isn’t really influenced by anyone like that and it was such a quick turn . He also eats eggs in part 2 in the officers mess with Jack and later John so where they different eggs or was he just in a different mood … we don’t know fer sure but I think his intake of food is a variable he can control at will and does.

Anyway I love when Gale gets to explore food in fics with John because I just don’t think it’s something he’d really think twice about otherwise! But something that would really open up his world through John and how passionate he is about it.

Except…. I think he loves hot sauce lmao and maybe that’s the ausbut hot wings thing. If he does have food ritual it’s putting hot sauce on everything and taking hot sauce everywhere and probably something rogue like Tabasco that tastes like straight fire so it hurts a little but also always tastes familiar.

Sometimes, the fast pace of the server can be too much. And when it is, the hermits know they can retreat to Jesse to take a break. Usually on a modded server, where they don't have to do anything but potter about. Jesse will happily listen to ideas. Or not, he isn't judging. He's just happy to be the hermits' holiday home.

I'm going to a halloween house party tomorrow(well tecnically it's today but it's 1 am and I'm still going to sleep so it doesn't count) and it's gonna be SO FUCKING GOOD. And the day after is the most decosive election day of our country in recebt history so it's being WILD these last few days.
