DJ KRISTIN! Spins Live on 89.5 Vocalo
Music Vox for Wednesday the 8th
Interview: Missouri Rock Band Ha Ha Tonka’s current album, Lessons, is a great mixture of thoughtful lyricism and catchy blues tinged Rock. This Saturday the band’s tour makes a stop in Chicago. Earlier today, I spoke with Brian of Ha Ha Tonka to talk about the new album and his backwoods beginnings.
And ya dont stop: With Chicago buried under more than several inches of snow, and suffering from a polar vortex, our senior Hip Hop correspondent Gabe Mendoza checks in with some hip hop records that reflect the frigid temps.
Oye como va: Sandra Trevino of Enchufate.com stops by to talk about the wonderful world of Latin Alternative music. We’ll get updates and preview some new music from the genre.
Your music: Local Music on the 20’s is where we hip you to the hippest of the hip in Chicago and NWI’S independent music community. Find out what the kid are listening to on the 20’s.

The artists:
Prob Cause: With his latest project, The Recipe Vol. 2, fresh outta the oven, PROBCAUSE is hitting his hometown of Chicago with new rhymes in tow. Jumping from dubstep to glitch-hop to R&B to classic rap without missing a beat (pun intended), his percussive lyrical delivery and impressive performance resume is no laughing matter - he's toured with TWISTA, MACHINE GUN KELLY, STEVE AOKI, and KREAYSHAWN, among others. His influences range from CHARLIE PARKER to ODD FUTURE, so expect the unexpected.
Show You Suck: Chicago emcee SHOW YOU SUCK is a trailblazer for alternative hip-hop. Coming from a rock and heavy metal background, his journey into the rap game has been anything but typical. SPIN included him on their "50 Best Things We Saw at SXSW 2013" list, and Red Bull Sound Select laid on the praise, saying, "With funny yet strangely poignant (and punk-tinged) lyrics about Big Gulps and 'Headbangers Ball', SHOW YOU SUCK is paving a way for a new musical form." His motto is, "If you're not here to party, get out!" Come ready to rage and you won't be disappointed.
Chandler London: Pilsen-based rapper CHANDLER LONDON is influenced by RITCHIE VALENS and DMX, and his songwriting approach is meticulous, authentic, and relatable. His debut album, The Science of Sleep was inspired by the indie film of the same name, and "has a cinematic feel, set in an idyllic realm." Introspective, artistic, and a little rough around the edges, CHANDLER LONDON is part of a new wave of talent from Chitown.
Pitchfork Day 1: First impressions

Because I couldn't remember where this years Pitchfork Music Festival was being held, I decided to follow anyone who was riding a fixed gear bike, wearing an ironic beard, mustache, romper, feathers, shrunken obscure basketball jersey or privilege.
It worked. A mustachioed lad lead me right to the corner of Ashland and Lake. As I entered the pearly gates of P4K I was greeted by the aroma of patchouli and sarcasm.
This years lineup was so obscure that you could hear hipsters minds being blown. And unsurprisingly, those mini explosions sounded a lot like Teagan and Sara's debut album, Under Feet Like Ours. I mean; Anti bro-step, techno stalwart Andy Stott? Red State Horror Indie Rocker, Southern drawl crooner Daughn Gibson? R. Kelly? Yep. All of them. The layers of irony were so intricate and complex it was as if Christopher Nolan based Inception on it.
I'm not being sarcastic when I say I'm excited to be here and I can't wait to put up some reviews.
