"Hey you," Jessie said as she flopped in an empty chair in the lab.
Funny how Jessie's presence, once foreign and invasive to him, now seemed to be like a puzzle piece falling into place.
"Good afternoon to you, too, Jessie."
"I was, ah--I was somewhat in the middle of something, so please be patient."
He really wished he could have abandoned his experiment and devoted his full attention to his girlfriend, but that was simply out of the question. He had to see if the compound dissolved. So, placing his eye back to the microscope, he scrutinized the petri dish beneath with what looked almost like hope.
After a few minutes, though, he expelled a weary sigh, and he pushed the microscope away.
"Well, that was a waste of time."
