Day 62 of 365
Good evening everyone.
Okay so this is probably going to end in a rant but right now I'm really not in the caring mood so here goes. Tonight I experienced some behavior that I really don't think was justified towards me. I was in the presence of someone who thought it was okay to mock my height. And please maybe I am just too sensitive about the topic but personally, if you don't know me, I hate my height. I am not tall whatsoever but please do not bring it up. It's rude and also does not add to the already miniscule amount of self esteem I do have.
Now for the context of this 'moment' - we were walking to the car after the game and I can't walk that fast. Literally cannot walk that fast because my legs are short and it really is a huge challenge to try and keep up with people. So the person is amongst the whole group and suggests that they leave me behind. Now I don't know if this is the person's humor or what but either way it is rude and threatening to my personal safety. Okay let's be real here Alex could have been like "f*** you!" and that was the end of it but I didn't say anything. I don't know this person and I was never introduced to her fully so I don't even know her name. Plus I would consider myself to be a relatively decent human being so those words are never used to strangers. But in that moment I wanted to use them.
So then I got to thinking and man was I judging this girl in my head but she earlier had chastised someone for coming alone and walking from her car in one of the designated parking areas around the arena. Seriously?! You not even an hour ago just said that someone was stupid for being alone and then you suggest to leave me alone. Oh and get this - she suggested that some random person should give me a ride back to campus. Oh yeah cool, let me just get kidnapped, raped, or even murdered. Yeah I'd love that. So folks here is the real meaning behind this post.
If you are not close with someone do not make comments like the scenario mentioned above. You can really endanger someone as well as hurt their feelings. Again maybe I'm just sensitive but you and I are not friends and you have not earned the right to joke with me about my height. And as of right now you never will. Also if this girl thinks that I am obviously not adequate enough to be in her presence for a ride then why is she at a Jesuit school. Hello? Jesuit values, being taught people are important, humanity and helping others? Apparently the lesson isn't being learned for that one.
Alright, enough of that and I just want to say "be nice to nice". I have explained by now why I like this because, ha yeah 1D, but really it's a nice reminder to always be polite to people. Don't pull the "I have no filter blah blah blah" that's crap you are really just being lazy and don't want to try and cover your foul language. I have a foul mouth sometimes but do I always - no I don't because I care how I portray myself. Being kind and courteous to people that I don't know is something my parents taught me from the time I could basically function even a little bit. Not saying that my parents are great at everything but come on people a lot of times your parents have raised you better than to say "we can just leave you behind" when you have already committed to giving someone a ride or "haha yeah man like f***", like no man stop it and grow up.
As a reminder (like always) have a good night and "be nice to nice".
-Alex.
P.S. Sorry this was so scatterbrained I have a lot of feelings at the moment that have all culminated into this post.
P.S.S. Pain demands to be felt, which personally means let the feelings flow freely.
