What’s Special about your name?
What’s in a NAME??
For the past couple of days, infact this whole week these same verses are ringing in my mind... at first I felt there was nothing special about this whole chapter Mark 3, but as I kept reading something starting ringing a bell 🛎
Mark 3-13:19-And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. 14 Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, 15 and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: 16 Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter; 17 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, “Sons of Thunder”; 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananite; 19 and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. And they went into a house.
What so special about these verses?
1. Peter, James and John were the first or only ones to have a different name assigned by Jesus
2. Usually in daily life we tend to call someone with a different name only when we have a special relationship with that person or love that person too much. Only if we are too close to somebody we have the liberty to call them with a different name. Officially none would call a person by another name.
3. From the 12 disciples Jesus had a special bonding with Peter, James and John and we see it in their daily life where these 3 disciples always accompanied Jesus on his special missions be it on the mount or anywhere.
So, there needs to be something special in our character and attitude for Jesus to identify us with a special name!!
With that special calling we can walk with Jesus on His special missions like Peter, James and John!
