Today my beautiful sister left for Japan where she is going to be teaching English with the JET Program - the very same program I did when I was her age. As we gave her a final send off at the airport, all of the memories from my own experience came flooding through. I'm so excited for all of the amazing things she will do when she is there, the kids she will no doubt have a profound effect on, and learn all the subtle (and not so subtle) cultural nuances of what it means to be an American woman living in Japan. After doing JET I no doubt became a different person with a wider, if not more compassionate view of the world and I'm sure that Missy will come away from this experience with the same perspective.
