Everyone had a crush on Zuko : boring, old, overused
Everyone had a crush on Jet : Fresh, New, Clean
What about Toph/Jet, romantic? Because that would be hilarious.
I laughed for minutes when I saw that. This is the werdest ship I've ever written about.
It would happen during republic city time, Toph is the chief of the police, so she's between 25-30. Oh and, let's pretend Jet is still alive, lol.
Toph and Jet romantic headcanons (kind of angsty):
-they met when Toph caught him trying to destroy a fire nation city.
-he went to therapy while being supervised by Toph.
-after her break up with Kanto, she felt sad and out of nowhere told Jet while guarding his cell.
-he understood her and let her rant.
-after that day, Toph spended hours after work to stay and discuss with Jet, both of them slowly falling in love.
-after he finished his time in jail, Toph was already a few months pregnant, he asked her out.
-she refused because they couldn't be together cause she's a policewoman and he's an ex inmate.
-but she was already in love and couldn't help but accept his invitations to secretly hang out at night when there was no one to see them.
-Toph didn't tell anyone from the gaang and wasn't planning to.
-as her pregnancy became heavier, she started refusing Jet.
-the whole gaang was confused why is she always so bored and upset, but they all assumed it was because of her breakup with Kanto.
-finally, after she gave birth, Jet visited her and Toph got really mad at him, started yelling at him and told him to go away.
-the gaang started teasing her for months, everytime she blushed and got frustrated.
-she cut her out of her life and never talked to him again for 5 years, until they met again in a bar, both of them drunk and out of passion decided to hook up.
-they started secretly dating for a while again.
-then Toph discovered she's pregnant again and out of shame cut him off again and never told him about her pregnancy, refusing to tell anyone from the gaang who's child it was.
-oh and, if anyone mentioned the possibility that it was Jet's kid she would try her best to act cold, but would always blushed.
Sorry it's not so funny, I can't write funny things 😭. But imagining Toph being so awkward and shy would be hilarious lol.
Affliction
That was what he was. In that moment, there was no better word that could fit the cocky freedom fighter so perfectly that it was almost hilarious. Almost. She sat with bitter contempt on a rock that over looked the ocean, her chin resting on the back of her damaged and re-wrapped hand. She'd torn off the make shift bandage the moment after she clocked him in his stupid face, discarding it outside before marching into her home and leaving him outside where he belonged. Like the bad dog that he was. Tool. Whore. Jerk. Stupid stupid STUPID Jet.
She stood then, ripping the pendant that was fastened around her neck and pulling her arm back as though she were about to hurl it into the sea. But before her arm could launch forward, before her slender digits could unfurl from his memento, a scene touched at her memories and made her pause. Why she'd even thought of it was beyond her, perhaps it had to do with where she was? The memory played out like a distant dream in the back of her mind. Of happier times when he still was able to make her smile and feel like she was the luckiest girl on the planet. That she could let down her guard and trust him completely. He'd been trying to show her how to skip rocks that day. It was easy enough until the rocks hit the surface of the water and bounced back up again, but he'd told her she managed pretty well.
Toph exhaled deeply, her arm falling to her side as the rope of the necklace dangled from her fingertips. She lifted her free hand to her face, covering it. What am I doing...Why am I letting him do this to me? All the things he'd said last night, she'd told him they were nothing but pretty words, empty promises, broken lies. It was all the same to her now. She'd been successful at putting on a tough front and only landed both of their stubborn sides to come out full throttle.
Worse yet, everything ended with whatever ounce of trust she had left for him shattering to pieces just as that plate had the previous evening.
Her jaw clenched tightly. The salty waves crashed against the shore, lapping over her exposed toes as the cool water sent a chill down her spine. There wouldn't be anymore of this. She couldn't allow it. A previous conversation with Katara reminded her of what she wished to attain. Nothing could shake a mountain. Mountains bent to no one. But it would be kinda hard to hug a mountain, Toph. Her kind words elicited the smallest of smiles and Toph closed her eyes, lifting her head towards the skies as the evenings cool breeze tickled her skin. That may be the case, but it would sure as hell make her life a lot easier either way. At least that's what she believed.
It's not pricey...but it's lots of fun
Jet's retort to Toph
Is it pricey where you live? In Imagination Land?
Toph's response to Jet saying she'd enjoy a kiss from him
You want to brag about how 'skilled' you are then? Go ahead. Go back to being a tool, you're damn good at it. But you weren't happy then and you wont be happy now. And if you think that you are.....well....I'll just say I thought I was good at lying to myself
Toph to Jet
She hated this kind of weather...
Why someone as brave as Toph was afraid of something so trivial as a thunderstorm never ceased to befuddle the young Freedom Fighter. More importantly, why was he even thinking about it or giving a damn for that matter? Jet stood in one of the buildings of the mighty city of Ba Sing Se, watching the rain beating furiously at the panes of glass as the thunder roared furiously outside. Was she alright? She wasn't actually out in this crap, was she? An obnoxious gnawing feeling in his gut was urging him to find out, and he had long since learned to trust his instincts.
It was a good thing he had too.
Why he had gone to that cave first was a mystery. How he had known she'd be there, another mystery all in it's own. But they were connected, on more than one level after all. He stood at the mouth of the cave, dripping wet and holding firmly onto a lantern that cast off a warm aura of light on the floors and walls of the surrounding area. A clap of thunder echoed in the walls and he heard a sharp intake of breath that was immediately followed by a pitiful whimper. Toph....
"I knew I'd find you in here......."
Her eyes widened as she smacked her palms against the ground, her head turning to cast a slight glare in his direction. He'd manage to sneak up on her, that much was true. But he was lucky he had called out wen he did less he wished to be tossed back out into the storm. She was panting softly, her slender frame soaked entirely to the core from the raging elements outside. Having just been on her way home from the market, the sky decided now would have been a good time to attempt to put her in a coma. And so now here she was, in this stupid cave of all places, waiting for a chance to get home.
"Yeah? And what the hell brings ya here anyway?"
For once, she hadn't literally meant to come off as spiteful as she just and Toph frowned to herself. First it was the incident by the lake near his home, and now this. No wonder he thought she was taking satisfaction in bringing him grief. But he had brought it on himself at his place when all of them had been there and she was watching out for Mai after hitting the cactus juice a little too hard. That little memory reminded her she still had to beat Zuko's ass. Footsteps closed behind her as a towel was wrapped around her. She immediately tensed, her fingers digging into the earth as the ground around them split and sent out a trail of cracks that spread out across the floor. It was the only warning she would give him and knew he understood when he sighed and stepped back. That didn't make her lower her guard any less, however.
And that pissed him off
"You know, it would be really nice if I could be as cruel as you. If I could let go of everything and just learn to despise you as much as you hate me."
Though he didn't know it, his words cut deep. Toph was thankful that she was soaking wet so when a single tear rolled down her cheek, he wouldn't bat an eyelash and think nothing of it. She'd be damned before she broke down and let him see her cry again. Him or anyone for that manner. Jet moved around her, setting down the lantern on the ground a little too roughly as the flames flickered and cast soft shadows around the room and over the two of them as he sat down across from her. Studying her face for that brief moment brought back memories of their past and a smug look crossed his face as he continued to ramble on.
"I think you just hate the fact that you're not the one with me at night. I know you miss me, I know you miss the way I made you blush.....especially that night in your tent....."
He was sitting in between two neatly made cracks, and when Toph flexed her digits and made the very ground beneath him tremble and split more as though it was going to swallow him up, he shut his mouth. Too bad he didn't know when to keep quiet any other time. A bolt of lightning flashed brightly outside of the mouth of the cave, coming close enough that Toph was actually paranoid enough to believe she could feel it's heat singe the hairs on the back of her neck. Outside was bad, what was in front of her was worse. Unable to do anything except flatten herself against the ground and hide beneath the towel until the storm was over, Toph did as such.
It made her miss Haru even more.
After Haru had sat with her after the petty fight with Jet. After he had been so gentle and understanding to how she was feeling. After he lulled her into getting inside before she caught her death outside in her soaking wet attire; she realized just how kind of a person he was. He was the one who lifted all the girls spirits when they were down it seemed. And thinking of that made her momentarily forget who's company she was in as a warm body moved closer and pulled her own against it. It was a bold move for even Jet to make. But it was if he knew that in current circumstances, she would just be grateful for the distraction of the raging storm.
"Toph...."
Am I alone in this? His rough hands slid over her face, lightly gripping her chin and tugging it upwards so he could look at her face. She wasn't the same little girl that had left him behind anymore. There was a young woman in his arms, a woman in drenched clothes that was cool to the touch and had curvy frame that was less than foreign to him. He didn't realize that she was shivering now because his digits were slowly running across her stomach, nor how their faces were only inches apart. Nor did he seem to realize the fact that it wasn't water from her hair dripping down her cheekbones, but tears. And he realized that he was not the only one that felt the way he did.
Closing the distance between them, his lips fell over hers.
She didn't kiss him back, and didn't know if she ever did because a thunderous boom managed to shake even her stone house. Toph bolted out of her bed so fast that she tripped and fell to the floor, her arms flailing wildly to grasp onto anything to stop herself. Crying out softly from both pain and the dream, she instead crawled under her bed and covered her ears with the palms of her hands. She really was pathetic, it was ridiculous to be stirred by a storm. But in reality, it was so much more than that.
