Jets have released veteran defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson from the I/R

Jets have released defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson from the I/R

The Jets announced Wednesday that they’ve released veteran DL Kevin Vickerson from the injured reserve list.

Vickerson, 32, signed a one-year contract worth $950,000 with the Jets back in March. However, he wound up being placed on season-ending injured reserve a few weeks ago.

Vickerson was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played college football at Michigan State.

Vickerson has also been a member of the Tennessee Titans, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs.

Jets worked out former Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor

Terrelle Pryor is working out for the Jets today

Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN reports that free agent WR/QB Terrelle Pryor is expected to work out for the Jets as a receiver in the coming days.

Pryor had a work-out a few days ago with the Patriots. Pryor was released last week by the Browns to make room for former Seahawks running back Robert Turbin. While thin at the wideout position, Cleveland considered Pryor the 53rd player on their roster. That rankled a portion of the fan base, who were taken by Pryor’s immense size — he’s 6-foot-5 and 232 pounds — and unique athletic gifts.

Jets worked out former Patriots draft pick Xzavier Dickson

The New York Jets worked out several players this week according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

The Jets worked out Cap Capi, Xzavier Dickson (former Patriots draft pick), Shayon Green, Jonathan Massaquoi and former Western Kentucky defensive end Quanterus Smith.

Dickson was a stud at Alabama, and could be a great piece for a Todd Bowles defense.

Jets are working out former Broncos draft pick Quanterus Smith

The New York Jets are working out former Western Kentucky pass rusher Quanterus Smith today according to Aaron Wilson.

Smith, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Broncos back in 2013 out of Western Kentucky. He was unfortunately cut loose by the Broncos with a failed physical designation days before this year’s NFL Draft.

Smith tore his ACL during his Senior season. Following the conclusion of his Senior season on December 5, 2012, He was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of The Year for his outstanding breakout season in which he recorded 38 Tackles, Career High 12.5 Sacks, one pass deflecion, one fumble recovery in which returned 75 yards for a touchdown and 3 Forced fumbles. He finished college with a total of 135 Tackles, 24 Sacks, 3 Pass Deflections and 5 Forced fumbles.

Jets catch a huge break; Antonio Cromartie has a negative MRI

Jets catch a huge break with Antonio Cromartie’s injury

The New York Jets have to be jumping for joy today. Their star cornerback did not suffer a torn ACL after all. The Jets announced today that an MRI exam on Cromartie’s injured left knee came back negative and that the cornerback is listed as week-to-week.

Cromartie has not been ruled out of the team’s Monday night matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Cromartie hyperextended his knee, according to a source informed of the player’s condition.

It’s a best-case scenario prognosis for Cromartie, who appeared to suffer a potentially season-ending injury when his knee buckled during Sunday’s 31-10 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Jets are fearing the worst for CB Antonio Cromartie's knee injury

Could Antonio Cromartie be done for the year? If so expect the Jets to play Buster Skrine

The New York Jets are hoping for good news regarding cornerback Antonio Cromartie, but that might not happen. Today an MRI will be conducted, and a source with knowledge of the situation told Pro Football Talk that the team currently are bracing for a diagnosis involving injury to the ACL and/or MCL.

In many cases, an ACL injury can be detected by a lack of stability in the knee. But an MRI always is used to determine the exact extent of the damage. The feeling around the team suggest this could be a season-ending injury. Fellow free-agent addition Buster Skrine replaced Cromartie following the injury and would be asked to play a bigger role if Cromartie is done for the season.

Report: New York Jets wanted Kirk Cousins after Geno suffered a broken jaw

Redskins starting quarterback Kirk Cousins could have been a New York Jet….Imagine That

Did IK Enemkpali ruin the New York Jets season, and plan? After Geno Smith suffered a broken jaw, the Jets reportedly were working the phone lines trying to find another young quarterback. 

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported this morning that the team explored trades with other teams when they were unsure how long  and called the Redskins about making a deal for Kirk Cousins. Cousins was also thought to be a possible target for the Jets when they were in talks in January with Dan Quinn about becoming their head coach, per Pro Football Talk.

Obviously, the Jets were rejected, and the Redskins would end up making Cousins their starter.  I just wonder if the Jets would take RG3? He might be available…..

The New York Jets have restructured the contract of kicker Nick Folk

Nick Folk has restructured his contract with the New York Jets

Today the New York Jets restructured the contract of kicker Nick Folk, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.  Here are the details of the report: 

They converted $1.78 million of Folk’s $2.5 million base salary into signing bonus, according to ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates. The move creates $1.19 million in cap space for 2015. The downside is that it pushes $593,000 onto the Jets’ cap in each of the next two seasons.

It raises Folk’s cap numbers to $3.28 million and $3.59 million in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

This was a smart move by the Jets to free up some cap space.
