hii anon!! I'll do my best to do a brief overview, but warning I wasn't in the fandom when all of this was going down so I might not have the most detailed information.

that being said here’s what I know:

so they were both in the red bull junior program in like, 2007-2013. they raced at the same time in the Formula Renault 3.5 series, in 2010 and 2011 (I suggest looking through the jevcardo tag because there is much content of them being babies and generally very cute, like here, here, here, etc).

in 2012 they were both announced as the F1 Toro Rosso lineup. it’s important to note that Jev finished ahead of Daniel in the championship that year (respectively 16 and 10 points). they both stayed for 2013, but this time Daniel outscored him with 20 points against 13. then Daniel went up to Red Bull in 2014, while Jev stayed in Toro Rosso with Kvyat joining him.

throughout all of this it seems that they remained friends, I saw some people compare them to, like, brocedes and stuff but it doesn’t seem as extreme as that. I think people like to portray their relationship as falling apart when Daniel got promoted to Red Bull but they were still talking, as you can see here (2014).

2014 went horribly for Jev for multiple reasons that I won’t go into here, and at the end of the year it was announced that he would be replaced by Verstappen, despite still finishing ahead of Kvyat in the standings. now, in interviews Jev always says that he understood that decision at the time, but that he was promised that if a seat opened up at Red Bull for 2015 he would be the one promoted. however, Vettel announced his move to Ferrari and Red Bull promoted Kvyat, and signed Sainz for Toro Rosso. I think it’s probably what frustrated Jev the most about this whole situation, he often talked in interviews about it. he worked as reserve driver at Ferrari from 2015 to 2017 before leaving F1 definitely.

again, some people act as if Jev and Daniel never spoke again but that’s not quite true, as you can see here: 2016, 2018, Monaco 2019, France 2019. Jev also congratulated Daniel on his 2018 Monaco win. however, it is worth nothing that it was always Jev coming to GPs, or posting about Daniel, while Daniel never really returned the favour. so you can read whatever you want into it 🤷

I think what people really like about their dynamic now is how their careers kind of mirror each other. despite the fact that Daniel was the one promoted to Red Bull, he never got a championship there, and he’s been going to increasingly bad teams. meanwhile, Jev found success in Formula E and is as of now the series’ only double champion ever. and he’s still fighting for wins and podiums this year. so, in my opinion at least, there’s a lot of potential for parallels here.

I hope I managed to give you at least some information about them!! once again, I’m definitely not the most knowledgable about them as I didn’t witness this in real time, so if you want more detailed information I would suggest going through the tag and asking people who were already there at the time (@zeraparker comes to mind, hope you don’t mind the @ ^^), or reading fanfiction like the rest of us if you're into that.

((there’s surprisingly a lot of fanfic about them, especially from the years they were teammates, but also more recent. I particularly like "every day I let go just a little bit more", although it’s not real, it is really interesting from a "mirror" perspective as I talked about before. however I would say if you know nothing about FE it’s probably not going to interest you very much (or maybe it will bring you into the sport lol.))

5 - A fic that's sweet and fluffy

I could be annoying and just answer all of this with sebson (I read other pairings guys, I promise), but I won't so I'll answer this with Webbonso instead.

It's Chocolate by MidnightCity. My writings have mostly been fluff(s) so it's definitely something I gravitate most often towards, so this hits the perfect spot in my brain🥰 Perfect fluff! The teasing, the push and pull between Mark & Fernando in this was *chef's kiss*

8 - A fic that deserves more love

There's quite a few actually, and I wanna give all of them a shoutout. Ah, maybe another time (anyone can ask this question again btw *wink wink*). For now, I wanna bring it back to the glory days of jevcardo (yes, people. before maxiel, there was jevcardo)

I remembered reading Safe Space by fanficwhirlpool and being touched by how bittersweet their story ended up after reading this, cause it's basically jev losing his seat in F1 while daniel getting to keep his at the same time. That was why their relationship irl was torn apart in the end, and they got lost as the newer ships emerged. This is one story where you see them dealing with it (somewhat), and I really think it's worth reading especially if you love daniel.

Man, I miss them. Me thinks I should write one😏

16 - A fic that's about a popular ship

People love Simi in here, so I've definitely read a few Simi fics around. One of them was Winter Pitstop by @backmarkerr, which features Rally!Kimi which is honestly one of the hottest Kimi era (I still think about that 1 gifset with his long hair🥰). Just a really good simi fic if you wanna start reading about them. It captures both of their personalities so well, pretty sure someone made a fanart based on this fic (which is also very beautiful, the talents in this app jfc🫨). HERE'S THAT FANART!!!
