“Let Daddy take your backpack, Asher,” Crosshair spoke softly as he relieved the Ramser’ika of his old pack he’d consummated on countless missions. He never thought he’d be passing it down to his offspring, much less putting it to use as a starter backpack for preschool. He slung the weight of his past over his shoulder and took Asher’s hand while Dee took his other.
Crosshair no sooner led them off the school premises before he was bringing Asher aloft atop his shoulders, the toddler giving a little shriek of laughter and a cheer; clearly pleased with the new vantage point. Little Sniper through and through.
Crosshair grinned to himself.
“I thought big boys were supposed to walk home from school?” Dee asked incredulously, though she was sharing her husband’s sentiment.
“You don’t have to be a big boy whenever you’re around Daddy, Asher,” Crosshair cocked his head as best he could to regard his small son above. “I’ll always protect you.”
Asher nestled his face sweetly on top of his papa’s head at that.
