“Just tell me,” Luna insists. “I won’t tell Mum. C’mon, ge, I swear. Don’t you trust me?”

“No, I don’t,” Luhan says, but he sounds resigned and just a little bit pleased. Luna grins. It’s a highly contested fact that Luhan is the older one – well, highly contested by Luna, for obvious reasons – so Luna hardly calls him ge, older brother. When she does, it’s almost a surefire way to get what she wants.

“We’ve been together since the womb,” Luna says, trying to sound as betrayed as possible. “You kicked me in the head, you monster. I forgave you, and this is how you repay me?”

“If you ask me, I should’ve kicked harder,” Luhan replies, “but I’ll tell you so you can calm down. Whiny baby.”

Zayn imports new rose bushes every few years from some botanical genius three states over. The inn’s practically frothing with flowers, and there are some days where she has to avoid the place because the clouds of pollen do nothing but exacerbate her allergies.

She hears the quiet disappointment in his voice when she calls him over the crackly line, smoothed over poorly with an, “Oh. Oh, okay. But, tomorrow, though?” To which she always responds, “Count on it.”

(And then she can hear the grin reappear along with the “M’kay. Twenty-eight.”)
