Sorry for the early posting... but somehow the scheduling function doesn’t work and I won’t be around in August to post this....
No idea if there’s someone still interested in doing this, well, this is the month to give our love to everyone’s favourite D Agency amphibious mini four wheel drive, Hatano.
As usual, the idea is to watch the episodes in chronological order according to the time in which they’re placed, and that’s why even though this is the 8th month of the year, we’re watching the 3 episode.
Rules:
1) Re-watch (or just watch, people new to the fandom are welcome to take part to this) the third episode of Joker Game (we won’t blame you if you can’t resist and also watch the following ones but well, this month is for Ep 3).
2) Once you’re done post your impressions, comments, fanworks, screencaps, quotes, whatever stuck your fancy about the episode, Hatano or the time period in which the episode took place.
3) Have fun! (Also Hatano will be happy if you give him your love!)
And with Ep 3 month comes the translated version for the page for Ep 3 from the “Joker Game” anime official web… Although the page wasn’t that long I still had to split it in more parts to ensure everyone could see it in a decent way.
As usual it would be awesome if some kind soul were to volunteer to translate the little bit that I was forced to leave untranslated in the D Agency’s information part of this episode (and of Ep 6, Ep 5, Ep 7 and Ep 10 as well)… and I would love it if he also were to be all right with me copypasting his translation there.

Brief introduction
Alan Lernier is a French student who’s also a member of the French resistance along with Jean Victor and Marie Torres.
When his group sees a Japanese boy helping a French woman who’d been taken prisoner by the German troops they try to help him and carry him in a house. There though they discover the boy, who went under the name of Shimano Ryōsuke, not only has lost his memory, but is also wearing a disguise (cotton in his mouth and fake glasses) and is capable of unusual things, like speaking Russian in his sleep or reading a Latin motto which is reflected in a mirror.
They don’t have the time to investigate though as the Germans start searching the houses, searching for them.
The boy considers consigning himself to the German but Alan tells him not to as, if he were to do so, they would also be in trouble as they’re Resistance members. At this the boy helps them all to escape.
However, once they escaped from the Germans, Alan would like for the Japanese boy to join the resistance. Marie agrees while Jean does not.
At this point, novel and anime differ. In the novel it turns out Jean, in love with Marie and jealous because she rejected him and always agreed with Alan, is a German collaborator who tries to have them arrested. The Japanese boy will render him unconscious and disappear before Alan and Marie’s eyes.
In the anime the collaborator is Marie, who was blackmailed by the Germans who had taken her family hostage. The Japanese boy will disarm her but Jean, who’s in love with Marie, will hit him, causing him to fall unconscious and then will escape with Marie. Alan will be left behind. When the boy will wake up again he’ll claim he has remembered his past and knows now what he has to do. Still, before the boy will leave, Alan will introduce himself to him and shake hands with him, showing him his appreciation.
Personality
Alan seems friendly, charismatic and brave. A good friend that cares deeply about his country and would love to make things better.
Physical appearance
In the anime, he is a tall, handsome boy, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Relationships
Jean Victor
Alan and Jean are both members of the resistance but Alan seems to be the one always taking the decisions, decisions with whom Jean often doesn’t agree. Jean views him as a rival for Marie’s attentions though in the anime Alan doesn’t seem particularly interested in Marie. In the novel though, Jean will grow so jealous of Alan he’ll start to collaborate with the Germans due to it.
Marie Torres
Alan and Marie are both members of the Resistance. Marie always tends to agree with Alan’s propositions which causes Jean to suspect she has feelings for him. In the anime though it’ll turn out Marie had been forced to become a German collaborator and, even if she didn’t want to put Alan and Jean in troubles, she had ended up on being forced to betray them. Due to Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke disarming her and Jean rescuing her she’ll decide to escape with Jean, leaving Alan, who had never suspected anything, alone.
Old French woman
It’s unknown if Alan and the old French woman knew each other. When she was captured by the German Alan and his group wanted to save her but Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke anticipated them.
Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke
For Alan, Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke is, in the beginning, just a Japanese boy who rescued a French woman and that he rescued in return, discovering that he’s actually quite mysterious and odd. The two, along with Jean and Marie will have to escape from the Germans together. In the novel Shimano Ryōsuke will save Alan from Jean Victor, who had turned into a German collaborator by rendering Jean unconscious and then will disappear. In the anime Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke will save him from Marie, who had turned a German collaborator but he’ll be rendered unconscious by Jean. He’ll still leave Alan later on, but the two will leave each others as friends, the anime hinting Hatano has developed a fondness for Alan. In truth, in the beginning, in both versions, for Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke Alan was one of the targets of his investigation as he was meant to infiltrate in the French Resistance and spy it. After this incident though his mission will be revised and he likely will not meet Alan again.
Abilities
He seems to be charismatic enough. It’s unknown though if he has other abilities.
Trivia
In the anime, although Hatano left him on his own in the end, when Yuuki told him he could remain in France if he wanted to, Hatano thought back at Alan. Hatano will still decide to go back to Japan but the fact he thought back to Alan hints at how Hatano had grown to appreciate him.

Brief introduction
He’s a French student and also a French Resistance member in love with another French Resistance member, Marie Torres. He belongs to Alan Lernier’s group, and he’s often in disagreement with Alan.
His group happens to save a Japanese boy from the Germans after said boy has rescued an old French woman. The Germans starts chasing them though and this forces them to escape with the boy.
In the novel it turns out Jean was a German collaborator, who sided with the Germans because rejected by Marie and jealous of her interest in Alan. When he’ll try to sell everyone to the Germans though, the Japanese boy will render him unconscious and then leaves him in Alan and Marie’s hands.
In the anime the German collaborator is Marie. When she’ll betray her group and will be disarmed by the Japanese boy, Jean will render him unconscious and escape with Marie, leaving Alan and the Japanese boy behind.
Personality
He seems gruff and not prone to trust people easily. He’s clearly in love with Marie.
In the novel he’s so hurt by Marie’s rejection and favouritism toward Jean he will become a German collaborator, in the anime he won’t betray Alan but he’ll still abandon him to protect Marie, choosing Marie to the Resistance.
Physical appearance
In the anime he has a strong physique, very blond hair and blue eyes. He’s not ugly but he’s not handsome either.

In the novel though, Jean will grow so jealous of Alan he’ll start to collaborate with the Germans due to it.
Marie Torres
Jean clearly has a weak side for Marie. In the novel she doesn’t return his feelings and refuses him, causing him to become a German collaborator out of jealousy for her interest in Alan Lernier. In the anime, although she still seems not to return his feelings, when he’ll save her they’ll escape together.
Old French woman
It’s unknown if Jean and the old French woman knew each other. When she was captured by the German Alan and his group wanted to save her but Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke anticipated them.
Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke
For Jean, Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke is, in the beginning, just a Japanese boy who rescued a French woman and that he rescued in return, discovering that he’s actually quite mysterious and odd. Jean seems to distrust him greatly but the two, along with Alan and Marie will have to escape from the Germans together. In the novel Shimano Ryōsuke will stop Jean Victor, who had turned into a German collaborator from betraying Alan and Marie by rendering Jean unconscious and then will disappear. In the anime Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke, after stopping Marie, who had turned a German collaborator, will be rendered unconscious by Jean who will then escape with Marie and leave Alan and Hatano/Shimano Ryōsuke behind. Jean’s blow though will help him to regain his memory back.
Abilities
Unknown.
Trivia
The anime changed Jean’s character quite a bit as, in the original he was the German collaborator who betrayed his friends due to his unrequited love for Marie. It’s possible the anime decided to change this because it would clash with Yuuki’s words in the last episode. Yuuki says D Agency doesn’t hire women because they kill for unnecessary reasons, like love and hate. In the novel Jean, by betraying Resistance for an unrequited love would also fall in this category as, if the Germans were to put their hands on the Resistance members this would likely cause their death.
Okay, so,once upon a time I discovered that on the Joker Game Twittter page there were some twitters related to the first 6 episodes (and they were translated by the awesome @sekinosemimaru). As I was sad there weren’t others related to the other 6 episodes I went to scan the twitter page in search of them. It turned out they later reposted the twitters about the first 6 episodes with some additions and also made twitters for the last bunch (it was for a Joker Game marathon on NicoNico).
Since Google translate was in a good mood and translated them decently I thought to share (maybe there is a better translation around and I just missed it). For complety sake I retranslated the other twitters though @sekinosemimaru‘s translation is much better than Google’s so I recommend that one.
Also, since Google was in such a good mood, I ended up translating some old random twitters you probably saw translated in the past as well... but well, I wanted to do a twitter translation bunch post and so here it is.
