In his album,“ J. Hollins; This is me Volume 2″, Hollins takes the listener through a host of emotions all the while staying true to the hip hop soul genre of music. Hollins starts the album off by slapping the listener over the head with the song, "STOMPING" that not only lets you know that he ain’t went no where but that he is also a force to be reckoned with. The 2nd track produced by Drty Gnus of Illisoulife. "BACK 2 YOU" is not only a club bangjoint but the compliment of Drty Gnus rhyme schemes shows how great the chemistry is between artist and producer. The two match up several times on this album on the song “DRTY PIKTUREZ”, “CAN I”, and the female favorite "YOU’RE MY GIRL," where Hollins lets his woman know that she’s his best friend and he declares a love for her that he thanks his Creator for. In this particular genre of music hip hop soul you get albums full of highs and lows and usually no substance (check T-Pain) but Hollins shows the genre how its suppose to be done. He showcases his son Izaac Hollins on the song, "JUST AIN’T YOU" and the father and son chemistry can’t ring more true when J. Hollins says, “Gone let my youngin sing the hook…”and his youngin, Izaac Hollins, shows us that singing may just be hereditary. Staying true to the soul part of the genre, Hollins takes the listener with him to heaven on my favorite song off the album, HEAVEN. As he croons “I’m not sure but this here must be bliss, I would’ve died a thousand times for this,” the listener can tell this is a man who loves a woman with no condition. He reps his own Leclaire Courts and serves notice to the genre that just because he sings it ain’t sweet; he knows the streets. He has shown the hip hop soul genre of music what to do and how to do it, Hollins is a gladiator of an artist who rides beats and rocks crowds effortlessly along side one of the coldest bands in the country “KNIGHTS OVER EGYPT”.
