“I know, princess. I miss your mom too.” Jackson coos your wailing two year-old daughter. She had her hair in uneven pig tails and in colorful clips restraining the bangs from her face.
You smiled as you heard Jackson whisper to your child. You were supposed to be away from them for a week because of business meetings overseas but it’s just a day after you left your kid with your husband yet he already had your phone heating from a series of voice and video calls every now and then.
Being first time parents gave both of you a mix of all the emotions in this world. Some of it you never even knew existed. When you first learned that you were pregnant with Jackson’s child, you were terrified. Five years of being in a relationship and yet you never really agreed in conceiving a child this soon. You were both at the peak of your careers and the plans of settling down as a couple only comes next in your priorities at that moment. Somehow, you knew that you and Jackson were just not that ready for the big responsibility yet. So after being greeted by a couple of positive pregnancy tests, you went to Jackson’s unit to break him the news.
He was sleeping when you came crashing at his place. You could feel your feet numbing and your mind going blank for a few seconds.Your head is spinning and you had to stand idly in front of your boyfriend’s door for a short while before pressing the doorbell, somehow forgetting the pin to his apartment. You were terrified of seemingly everything but most of all, you are afraid of how Jackson would react. When he opened up the door for you, he smiled with half-lidded eyes and pulled you in quickly, locking you in his embrace and leading you to his bed to snuggle.
Jackson noticed your unusual silence despite his being drowsy. He asked what has been bothering you and you replied with a straightforward sentence, serving him the news. He didn’t say a single word then and you could feel his whole body stiffen. Instead, he just looked straight into your teary eyes, filled with worries and almost panic. You closed them and attempted to get up, feeling a tear trickle at the side of your face, but Jackson held you firmer and kissed your tears from your face.
“Are we keeping it?” you heard your own voice tremble as you asked your partner, not sure if you really want to hear his answer. You never really considered throwing away the little life you now have inside of you but you wanted to hear from Jackson. You briefly made a mental note to yourself that you might probably have to raise your baby alone in case he says he’s not ready to be a father yet. When you opened your eyes, you were surprised to see Jackson crying with you.
He caressed your tummy under your shirt. “It finally worked.” he mumbled. “I love you, I’ll take care of you and our little munchkin.” Jackson kissed you, wiping most of your worries now that you know you have him by your side, starting a new chapter in your lives together.
“What did you say?” you broke the kiss and asked him. “What worked?”
“You’re always so clueless, aren’t you?” he smiled warmly, eyes gleaming of happiness. “I’ve been trying to get you pregnant for months now, Y/N. I want you to bear my children and be stuck with me forever. I want to be your dead end.” Jackson did not wait for you to answer and instead pulled himself up and away from you for a few seconds, rushing to his dresser.
You sat up on his bed, and waited for him. When he successfully retrieved a small velvet box, he turned to you again and slowly made his way across the room on your side of the bed. His whole body shook and the floor felt cold on his feet.
Jackson propped himself on one knee, pulling the box out of his palm and showing a small marquise cut diamond ring. Of all the ways you thought he would react, it never included him dropping on one knee and offering you a lifetime commitment. Has he planned this all along? You cannot seem to make out a single word out and you could only stare at him in astonishment.
“I had this ring for a year now, Y/N. I understand this may be too quick for you but please, believe me, I have never imagined spending the rest of my life other than with you. I know we don’t talk much about building our family together in the future but I hope I don’t scare you with this one. I want to spend the rest of my waking moments with you. Please let me be a father to our child and a husband to you. Marry me, please.”
You reached out and cupped his face, kissing him. “I love you. Let’s get married. Let’s do this together.”
“Jackson, honey, have you checked her diaper? She could be crying because you actually forgot to change her pants.” you told Jackson slowly. You understand how difficult this could be to him since this will be the first time he’ll be taking care of your daughter completely alone without you by his side. He never thought that doing everything for your child could be overwhelming for him even though he has been more of a hands on father.
After an hour, Jackson successfully calmed your daughter and tucked her to bed. He calls you back but was greeted by you moaning out of grogginess. He smiled to himself. Damn, he misses you so much. He misses your heated body against him. “Baby.” he murmured to his phone as he watched the half of your face sleep on his phone screen. “I love you.” and as you always do, you smiled in reflex upon hearing his voice.
