Baha’i house of worship

The most unforgettable building in Chicago during my Thanksgiving trip is Baha’i house of worship. Thanks to my dear friend driving me to the temple, I could see this marvelous masterpiece with my own eyes!

It is one of eight Baha’i temples in the world now. It stands for unity and invites prayer to God. Gardens encircle this nine-sided structure which is covered by a majestic dome. 

It is a sacred space. Everyone in the building kept silent, creating an atmosphere where I felt peaceful and calm. Reading the writings above the entrance ‘The best beloved of all things in My sight is Justice...My love is my stronghold...Thy heart is my home; sanctify it for my descent...’ I thought of what I read and learned in my elective spiritspace. At that moment, I saw light suddenly. I tended to understand spirituality of a space, to feel my home in my heart. Only if I myself was in this space that I could really feel the spirit of the building.

This construction is really magnificent and splendid, especially at night with all the yellow light coming through the windows. I hope to meet it again in the future.

Army Day

Chinese Army Day is on August 1st in order to commemorate the foundation of The Chinese People's Liberation Army on Aug 1st of 1927 in Nanchang.

Army Day does not always come to people’s mind when talking about Chinese festivals. However, it is a special day to me and my family. Because my father is a soldier and he is teaching at a local military school. And my family is living in military compound. We celebrate this day every year.

On Army Day, sometimes there are national military parades and national celebration galas, which will be broadcast on TV nationwide. And the local school where my father is working usually hold some celebration activities like playing classical educational movies about Chinese army on that day.

I’m thankful that I can experience Army Day every year. I’m proud of Chinese army and I’m proud of my father.
