I just remembered this post and I wanted to lowkey rant about it because it makes me mad
first of all, WHAT A WAY TO SAY YOU DIDN'T LISTEN TO FILIPINO CLASS!! Have you ever thought of the fact Balagtas wrote it for M.A.R.... because he didn't fucking meet Juana Tiambeng at the time??
Sure it's debatable when Kiko actually wrote the awit but it's so obvious he wrote it during a time he was mourning his lost love for Maria Asuncion Rivera, NOT when he was married with Tiambeng.
Second of all, this sentence implies that Balagtas still loved Rivera at the time and not Tiambeng, which again is BULLSHIT.
Now, forgive me since I don't remember the exact dates, however the time segment between when Balagtas was jailed and when he met Juana Tiambeng was a very long time! If he hadn't gotten over Maria Asuncion Rivera by that time, I would've been surprised. Need I remind he was in his 30s or 40s when he had his first love?? You can't tell me he was immature enough to still not be over his first love, that's a middle aged man you're talking about.
And if per say, YOU STILL THINK Francisco never loved Juana, that still doesn't make sense! Why? Well if he never loved her HE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD ELEVEN FUCKING KIDS WITH HER IN THE FIRST PLACE
Third and finally, the person saying that in general is wrong, the saddest part of F&L was when Laura admitted she would've killed herself if she actually got raped by Adolfo and married him. Fin.
