did you attend dashcon? is that why ur so heated about the night veil thing? ;;
I didn’t actually I’m keeping up with it by creeping around hundreds of blogs to make sure I have it all right. The reason why I’m heated about it isn’t because I love WTNV, but because everything was just so poorly planned that the staff and some of the congoers ended up trying to scapegoat the performers. And for what? Because the staff couldn’t uphold their end of the bargain? WTNV cancelled while in the middle of their European tour to do this. In general, all cons are responsible for paying a guest’s travel and board which Dashcon didn’t do. That’s already a very dick move right there, and to not pay them upfront is just a bigger slap in the face. Not just to WTNV but also to the fans in Europe who missed out on them because a group of ill-experienced dumbasses thought they could run something so big.
Apparently the con staff had a verbal agreement to pay the panelists after the con which is basically illogical and a total rip off. Anyone with half a brain should know to never trust a verbal agreement because your ass isn’t covered legally. Who even pays guests on the day of the con?! If you want something official you should do this weeks before because what Dash is doing is just downright unprofessional and embarrassing. Paying way beforehand establishes a legal contract that the staff have done their part and now the performers have to deliver. WTNV doesn’t owe it to anyone to stay in that train wreck and entertain a bunch of attendees when legally speaking, they haven’t been paid to do it.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Dashcon has the money for Night Vale mostly in cash. I can only suspect that this is a makeshift fund from all the people who were stupid enough to throw money at the staff. The payment is even split between cash and PayPal further implying that the money was gathered last second. Probably from the donations. Someone correct me. That’s horribly inefficient. It’s like you’re paying the cashier in pennies while a line forms behind you but you don’t have enough money so you’re telling them to reach into your Paypal to get it. If this is true then the con is basically a scam. You should pay guests all in one form and this is incredibly sloppy.
And then there’s this: ”…unfortunately Paypal was malfunctioning and they were unwilling to wait.”
Dashcon says that WTNV was unwilling to wait as a way of subtly implying that it’s not the staff’s fault for having the show cancelled. When Night Vale made an official statement which basically said that Dashcon didn’t even pay a single cent it only serves to prove that the con staff were just trying to cover their asses. Then con goers had the audacity to send hate messages to the performers for not doing the job they were never paid to do. That’s hardly warranted, if anything they should be directing their frustration at the owner of the convention for ripping them off left and right with an overpriced get together. But for some reason a good majority of them are dumb enough to believe that paying $65 for a first time con and then having to send over more money in donations to pay for something the staff was responsible for isn’t a scam. Some actually think that the fact that all their money, which was used to deliver little to nothing to them, wasn’t a scam. So if you want to know, I’m not frustrated on the behalf of WTNV. I’m frustrated at the sheer amount of stupid that’s currently going on.
