( @jillianmercers​ -- continued from beachapalooza ) finley almost expects jillian to say no, to tell them that she just wants them to fuck off and that she wants to be alone, but at this point, they aren’t really sure what to expect. so of course she agrees, and finley nods before leading the way to their house, which was thankfully not that far from the beach. “i think the first-aid kit can cover all of that, and i can give you some pills for the headache.” a small shrug. “and as a last resort, you can play with the pets. the ferret’s probably asleep, though.”

Sloane knocks on the Mercer general store before placing a parcel that is wrapped in purple tissue paper. Inside is a carefully folded sweater. Fae quickly ducks away as the door swings open. A small piece of paper with Jillian’s name written contains a quick note.

Dear Jillian,

Here’s to making another trip around the sun, and defending the small businesses of this town. Happy birthday, I hope Brioche gives you extra attention today.

As the sun began to meet the horizon, Sloane stood outside of the old community center. Fae had been lingering around for a few hours, hoping Jillian would come. If there was someone fae knew disliked Joja as much as faerself, it was Jill. Perhaps even more so. But over the past few days, fae had felt something unsettling in the air. Every time fae tried to commune with the spirits, fae felt almost like an electricity in the air. Something was brewing and Sloane was making it faer responsibility to find out what. With a sigh, fae sat outside of the entrance and just then thought fae could see a figure approaching.

( @jillianmercers​--  the mines ) this is not finley’s natural habitat. it’s dark and gloomy and sound carries, meaning even the drop of a pebble sends a chill down their spine. they’re somewhat effectively picking away at a rock, their bag on the ground beside them, holding the few pieces of copper and iron ore that finley has been able to find-- shit luck, basically. they continue chipping when the sound of approaching footsteps startles them mid-swing. the pick-axe slides from the rock, almost smashing their foot before they evade it with a quick sidestep, though the curse-- “shit!”-- still escapes them, and the shrills above them, along with the flapping of wings announces some of the bats waking temporarily from their slumbers. and then there’s finley, lit only by the faint torch light, pressed against the wall, lips clamped together to suppress a yelp, and hand over their frantically beating heart.

Who buys flowers for the other: I could see Jillian buying the flowers, she’s got that hidden romantic energy vibe

Who makes the other coffee/tea: Sloane does, fae have so much practice making teas, and fae loves getting Jillian to try different teas

Who eats the most candy on Halloween: Jillian, Sloane loves baked goods, but not candy so much

Who tries new recipes all the time: Sloane loves cooking new recipes if fae were able to use a full kitchen and then trying to pull Jill in to help

Who genuinely likes pineapple on pizza: Sloane likes it when there is something to balance the sweetness, but I can’t see Jill liking it

Who wears hats on special occasions: Sloane would and would try to convince Jill to wear one with faer (and sneaking a cute hat on)

Who likes ‘90s R&B: Both of them. Sloane prefers more lo-fi, but I can see them both bonding over artists they like

Who likes long walks on the beach: Sloane does! Fae gives Jillian the best sea shells to make her smile

Who buys wacky picture frames: Jillian buys wacky picture frames for Sloane

Who compares themselves to fictional/celebrity couples: Maybe Jillian? Sloane wouldn’t know the celebrity gossip, but probably neither

Who can solve a rubix cube: Neither of them. Jill moves the stickers and Sloane would replace them with more fun, colorful stickers on the other side of the rubix cube

Who would wear Hawaiian shirts on vacation/during the summer: I don’t see hawaiian shirts being either of their style, though Sloane would try to steal some of Jill’s clothes on vacation

Who wears mismatched socks because they can’t keep up with the pairs: Both of them for sure, especially if they were constantly moving between the other’s place - what with having to hang clothes on a line and having wind blow it off or getting mixed up with someone else’s clothes at Jill’s place.

Outside of the Mercer general store rests a small manila envelope with Jillian’s name written in cursive. Inside is a piece of stationary, and a purple rabbit collar with the words ‘fuck Joja’ neatly stitched on.

Dear Jillian,

I am glad we got the chance to begin bonding over our mutual hatred of Joja. To be honest, I didn’t like you when we first met. But, I can see now that you’re just unafraid to speak your mind, and that’s an admirable quality.

I picked stitching back up while I was visiting some family, and I thought you’d appreciate the design. You have a rabbit right? I thought you would appreciate it. Consider it a token of our friendship.
