@magic-girl-in-a-muggle-world and I just posted Chapter 13!! Read it here! We are closing in on the end! 2 Chapters to go!
I can honestly say, this is the project I'm most proud to be a part of. I am so proud of this story, and I am so thankful I got to write it with one of my best friends! I love you so much V!
Chapter 13
Over the course of the next week, Lily tinkered with the website, had a pitch meeting with the owners of the Greek cafe (they seemed interested!), and went out with Marlene, Dorcas, and another friend of theirs called Mary. Dorcas was amazing, open and affectionate and motherly, with a fierce protective streak when it came to her friends. Mary was quiet, but secretly hilarious. Between them and the boys at the Marauders’ Den, Lily was starting to feel like she belonged here, in a way she hadn’t felt in a long, long time. It was nice.
Mostly. She definitely liked that she had been so easily welcomed into this friend group. But there was one person with whom she would’ve liked to be a little more than friendly. It was ironic, really– she could've missed out on the opportunity to know James at all if she hadn't given him a second chance after he missed their first meeting, and now it felt like she had missed out on the opportunity to know him on another level by shutting down his romantic overtures so thoroughly at the beginning. Now – respectful, considerate prat that he was – he had moved her firmly into the platonic category, and he seemed comfortable keeping her there. Sure, she and James had exchanged some emails over the past few days, but they were polite, professional emails with updates about the website. There was no banter, no flirting, no nothing.
The photos, though, were another matter. When Lily received the proofs from the photo shoot, she didn’t want to overanalyze them. Really, she didn’t. But she was a human woman, with a heart and a brain, so she really had no choice. And there was so much to analyze.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
The light from the projection flickered across James' face, giving it strange shadows and drawing her eye away from the movie to study it. So much about him felt like a mystery to her, still. Here, at the back of the Great Hall in the partial darkness, her heart pounding away in her chest, it seemed like she should be able to figure some of it out.
Hi guys! so this isn’t a parks and rec/orphan black crossover but we’ve finally put up the first chapter of our orphan black/harry potter (marauders era) crossover and we are SO excited about it. this has been 2 years in the making so we hope you enjoy it! part of the chapter is under the cut but the full chapter is up on our ao3. please tell us what you think!
Summary: James Potter’s life is falling apart: his Quidditch team can’t seem to win a match, he’s hopelessly in love, and his only friends are entangled in a clone conspiracy.
Chapter 1: The Gravity of the Task Which Lies Before Us
James had no memory of walking to the Great Hall.
He went through his motions mechanically, half-dazed and laden with sleep, buttering a slice of toast until it was soggy. He thought of the upcoming game with difficulty, for it was hard to see past his tiredness; their team had been preparing for months, and he hoped to bring them to victory in his first game as Captain. Yawning, James recalled the dream he’d had the previous night: the whole Slytherin team had upgraded their brooms and were using Paul Dierden’s head as a Quaffle. He hoped it was not some kind of horrific premonition, but then, Divination had never been his strong suit.
It was Sarah who drew him from these thoughts, cuffing him on the side of the head with the hand that was not waving a jam-covered roll around like it was a battle-axe.
“Oi!” she huffed, clearly put-out that James had not been hanging on to every word of her robust, pre-Quidditch speech, “Are you ready for the match?”
Odd dreams forgotten, James snatched the roll, tearing a chunk off with his teeth and grinning at her with a mouthful of food. She made a vague noise of protest, trying to reclaim her breakfast, and James held it out of her reach, saying, “When am I not ready, Manning?”
“Last year,” said Sarah in a strained voice as she leaned over him to grasp the roll, “when your Comet started tailing left and you said you would buy a new one-”
“Alright,” he said weakly, shoving the half-eaten roll back into her hand in an effort to quieten her.
“-and you nearly cost us the match to Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff, James!”
“Definitely one of his lower moments.” said a voice from behind them. James found himself shoved to the right as Sirius wedged himself in the small space between them, balancing a plate laden with food on his fingertips. A fried egg threatened to slide over the edge of the plate and onto James’s lap; he took the plate from Sirius before that could happen, allowing his best friend to settle on the bench.
“At least I’ve got the Nimbus now.” said James, claiming a slice of toast from Sirius’s plate.
“One match too late.” said Sarah solemnly with a dramatic, defeated hanging of her head. She righted herself at a sharp, accidental jab to her rib from Sirius’s elbow; she pushed him and James further down the bench and rubbed the sore spot. “Where’re Remus and Pete at?”
“They’ll be sleeping in until the match, the pillocks.” said Sirius, spearing a sausage on his fork and inspecting it carefully before laying it down and pushing the plate away.
James waved his slice of toast in Sirius’s face, saying, “Eat.” in a firm voice. Sirius made a whiny sort of noise, to which James said, “First match of the year. and I refuse to lose to Slytherin because you fell off your broom in a fit of famine.”
“Good morning!” greeted a pleasant, feminine voice far too chipper for an early Saturday. “How’re you all feeling?” Beth slid into the empty space opposite Sarah, a sullen-faced Lily right on her heels.
“We,” said Sirius, pointing to himself and Sarah, “are in excellent condition. It’s your brother we’re worried about.” He lowered his voice conspiratorially, leaning across the table to be closer to Beth but not at all concealing his voice from James: “It was totally his fault we lost last year.”
“It was not my fault!” protested James as Beth snickered behind her hand. “It was totally Davis’s, no one told him to go flying in front of the hoops-”
“What’s got her knickers in a knot?” interjected Sarah with a sweeping gesture at Lily, who propped her chin on her hands and glared at a spot on the table. Beth gave a noncommittal shrug, taking a long drink from her goblet.
“Mornings,” said Lily, words laced with contempt, “are not for being awake. I’ve spent my valuable sleeping time breathing owl dung-!” At this, James snorted audibly, and Lily’s tired scowl turned on him. He hastily stuffed a second slice of toast into his mouth, unaware of what exactly he was doing, and rose loudly from the table, sending his own empty goblet clattering to the wooden surface.
“C’mon,” he said around the toast, seizing Sirius and Sarah by their shoulders. “There are some plays I want to go over-”
The three left the Great Hall, Sarah buttering a second roll as she walked. James was all too aware of several eyes following them, mostly sneering Slytherins who would not soon forget their crushing defeat the previous year. He waved in their direction cheerfully.
"Shouldn't we round up the others?" asked Sirius. "For the plays?"
James waited until they were in the corridor to answer. "That would be helpful," he said slowly; it was easier to pretend like he had forgotten about the rest of the team than to admit that he had gotten flustered by Lily and needed a quick escape. "Sarah, go back and get the team. We'll meet you on the pitch."
"Got it, Captain." said Sarah, saluting him mockingly.
"No more rolls!" called James as Sarah spun on her heel and returned to the Hall.
Hi! Could you do a short muggle Jily au where they have neighboring apartments or something? I love your blog so much by the way :)
“GO TO HELL”
“BACK AT YA DICKHEAD”
Lily can’t stop screaming at her new neighbors. Two STUPID boys who blast rock music at ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT. now it isn’t even good music mind you, it’s the kind that people listen to so they can say “I liked rock before you knew how to walk”. Really it just makes any sane person want to invent a time machine and murder the man who created rock music because it led to this exact moment.
She’s armed with a broom and is banging on her ceiling.
When her neighbors first moved in, she was excited. Most of the people in the complex either have kids or have grandkids and it has been difficult to make friends around. However, once she met them, everything changed.
First she tried to tell them, politely, that she works. All the time. When she isn’t working she’s at medical school, and she also happens to be a crazy light sleeper. Maybe she was more lonely before they moved in, but at least she was well-rested.
Sirius. If only he lived up to his name. and his roommate James Potter. Little did she know they would be the bane of her existence.
So after a long night of studying at the library, she was a little bitter. First off, she started her day getting yelled at by her boss because her crummy coworker Peter took her shift, then bailed. However, she was running a study group and couldn’t get away, especially since she had technically worked way overtime this week. Then, the library was packed full of students and no one in the group was prepared for the discussion. It was exhausting and frustrating and when she walked up the 4 flights of stairs (the elevator was broken) to get to her door, the last thing she wanted to hear was Sirius Black screaming incoherent words to music with a cringe-worthy beat.
Banging on the ceiling only seemed to aggravate him, because even though it seemed an impossible feat, the music only got louder.
“fuck it” she muttered
she stormed up the stairs (quietly fuming because she was not going to disturb the other neighbors,) and didn’t even notice she was behind a messy haired boy.
“SOrry! sorry, bollocks! I didn’t see you there” James sputtered as she ran into him.
Lily probably should have said something but in all of her anger she was not expecting an apology, especially one from an awkward, nervous boy who was shoving his glasses up his nose.
“Hey, I know we haven’t formally met, do you live here too?” he asked while leaning up against the hallway.
“Yes, I’m Lily, also known as the girl with the broom who can’t stand your music” she said pointedly. Overall yes she should have been nicer, but it was a bad day.
“Ha. Yeah I’ve been meaning to come down and apologize, I’ve told him to stop but Sirius has some anger issues, some pride issues, and overall just some issues. I promise we’ll try to keep it down.”
“oh. well. okay I guess. just you better keep it down.” She said and turned around in a bit of a daze. He walked into the room and yelled some profanity, and miraculously, the music went down.
maybe this wasn’t so bad. one stupid boy with one, cute, messy haired boy? maybe she can handle this after all.
@magic-girl-in-a-muggle-world and I posted Chapter 10!! You can read it on AO3 here!
Here's a snippet:
It was like as soon as Lily acknowledged that feelings may exist, the floodgates burst open. No matter how hard she tried to focus, her mind kept getting distracted by tight shirts pulling across taut planes of his chest. Or striking hazel eyes. Or the whirlwind of hair atop James’ head. He kept bleeding into Lily’s subconscious.
Saturday, she decided to pull out her laptop and start removing the options that were definite no’s from Sirius. Lily figured paring down what they’d be looking at would help keep them more on track. Which, of course, brought her mind to Monday, which led to — you guessed it! — more distracting thoughts about James.
The only saving grace for this job was that once the meeting was over she would have a few weeks away from the distracting business manager. Hopefully, the mountain of coding she had to tackle would keep her mind busy, but she had a distinct feeling that it still wouldn’t prove enough.
@magic-girl-in-a-muggle-world and I posted the next chapter!
Chapter 9
Lily was curled up in her father's favorite armchair at her parents' house, her sketchpad resting on one knee. She had created an intricate pattern of geometric shapes, and now she began to fill it in using her colored pencils. The activity was soothing to her, sort of mindless but still structured, and it gave her the opportunity to produce something pretty and interesting. Most days, sketching was so satisfying, and after half an hour with her pencils, her brain felt organized and she felt at peace.
Today was different. She'd been at her parents' house for most of the week, and nothing – not Minnie, not her Mum's gossip about the neighbors, not drawing – could take her mind off of her encounter with Severus Snape. No matter how many times she tried to tell herself it was a coincidence that he had shown up at the Marauders' Den that day, her brain wouldn't stop shouting, "SNAPE FOUND YOU! RUN! RUN! RUN!"
So as people in the jily fandom know today starts jilytober!!! I'm on a road trip rn but I've been writing the past few days so here is the start of my contribution!!
Chapter 1: Stuck in a broom cupboard
